The University of Notre Dame declared this week that it will require the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition for enrollment in the 2021-22 fall semester, joining a slate of other universities that plan to mandate vaccines for most students.
Executive officers at Notre Dame announced that undergraduate, graduate and professional students will have to be fully vaccinated to attend in the fall, according to a letter sent to the university community on Wednesday. The university said it will permit documented medical and religious exemptions.
The letter also said the university will accommodate for those who cannot get the vaccine ahead of the fall semester or those who received vaccines that are not approved in Indiana, which particularly applies to international students.
Requiring students to be vaccinated for COVID-19 is a new and important addition to our health policies, one that we believe will enhance public health at Notre Dame and in our community, while also contributing to our ability to return to a more vibrant campus environment," University President Rev. John Jenkins said in a release.

(9,998 posts)Give it time, Notre Dame will eventually relent once the Governor takes action to prevent reasonable things like this.

But the university is changing course following an executive order by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Under the order, government agencies or organizations that receive public funds are banned from requiring proof of vaccination for entry or services.
On Tuesday, St. Edwards issued a new exemption for students and staff, indicating they can simply decline to provide proof of vaccination to the institution if they wish. Previously, exemptions related to religious beliefs, underlying medical conditions, and concerns about the Emergency Use Authorization were allowed.
While St. Edwards is a private institution, it does receive state funding for financial aid.

all students and staff must be fully vaccinated by the time school starts. For those that may not have had access to the vaccine, the school is having a vaccination event before school starts. My granddaughters will be fully vaccinated way before August thanks to President Biden. I think this should be required by every school. Abbott is a fool.
