The side effects of the vaccines, however, tend to be mild; the vast majority of reactions include pain at the injection site.
More systemic reactions following the vaccine were similarly benign, with fatigue, headache and myalgia being the most common reported outcomes.
All of the local and systemic adverse effects became more frequent following the second dosage. Symptoms like fever, joint pain and body chills were reported more frequently.
More severe outcomes, such as nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea remain relatively uncommon among the various adverse reactions.

(8,208 posts)102 fever, headache, vomiting for 12 hours. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

(57,664 posts)I had my first Moderna shot a week ago. Afterward, I picked up a few newspapers and walked back home. Nothing wacky happened.

(1,294 posts)the side effects are worse.
Just got my second an hour ago. From what I know side effects will show up between 6 hours after shot and 24 hours after shot. For some they last 24 hours and others 2 days or so.
But, any side effect is better than getting CV!

(8,784 posts)Pfizer has more of the serious side effects than Moderna. Almost double anaphylactic reactions.

(34,117 posts)And that's the reason we chose Moderna for my highly-allergic spouse.
She did have more systemic reactions than I did (by far) - BUT - the more severe systemic reactions were worth the price to avoid the significantly higher risk (for her) of an anaphylactic reaction.

(65,248 posts)She got Pfizer, I got Moderna. She had nothing on shot 1, and upset stomach for an hour or so on the 2nd.
I had nothing the first time, but a 14 hour fever & soreness in the upper back & shoulders. (Flu-like).
This piece really describes what the two of us had happen!

(1,495 posts)Our doctor says it was probably related to the vaccine. He's pretty healthy too, other than high blood pressure.

(100,108 posts)That was about it. I should be lucky because I hardly ever get reactions to any medication I take.

(6,406 posts)But after the first dose, pharmacist said I would probably have a sore arm and ran down on all the other side effects. Sure I had a sting while heading home and even got a mild headache that lasted a few minutes and thought, "well, that wasn't so bad". Later that afternoon...oh shit did my arm hurt where they jabbed me. I could barely pick it up without pain. But was gone by the next day.
My wife had pain as well, but not as severe is mine. But she went to bed early and was out cold for a good portion of the morning.
And yes, I would do it again and have all intentions of getting the second dose. The side effect of death from not being vaccinated is kind of permanent.
