Trump appointees in the Department of Health and Human Services last year privately touted their efforts to block or alter scientists’ reports on the coronavirus to more closely align with then-President Donald Trump’s more optimistic messages about the outbreak, according to newly released documents from congressional investigators.

The documents provide further insight into how senior Trump officials approached last year’s explosion of coronavirus cases in the United States. Even as career government scientists worked to combat the virus, a cadre of Trump appointees was attempting to blunt the scientists’ messages, edit their findings and equip the president with an alternate set of talking points.

Then-science adviser Paul Alexander wrote to then-HHS public affairs chief Michael Caputo on Sept. 9, 2020, touting two examples of where he said officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had bowed to his pressure and changed language in their reports, according to an email obtained by the House’s select subcommittee on the coronavirus outbreak.

Pointing to one change — in which CDC leaders allegedly changed the opening sentence of a report about the spread of the virus among younger people after Alexander pressured them — Alexander wrote to Caputo, calling it a “small victory but a victory nonetheless and yippee!!!”

careless and/or reckless disregard for human life. I wish that I would see something more aggressive in something at least going after trump, his cronies by the Biden administration. I know that Biden has mentioned that he didn't want things in his admin. to be overshadowed by trump issues (e.g., going after him in court, criminal and civil), but still. There's a whole slew of a massive number of Biden supporters who supported Biden on the premise that justice would be handled out, once individuals were charged, and if found guilty of a crime, convicted.

Some articles on DU have mentioned that perhaps Biden is overreaching w/ Infrastructure, w/ gun E. Actions/etc. to reduce gun violence. Isn't also one additional goal of the Biden admin. is to further cement future Democratic victories, as well as expand Democratic numbers in the Congress?

I do seem to hear stuff, but it's mostly unfortunately a whole slew of things all at once, hammering away at the Biden Admin., everybody wants their piece of the pie.

Patience is needed, as well as being crafty for the long term. Voting Rights for Americans should be assured as one of the top priorities for if we can't win future elections because of anti-voter tactics adopted by local republican parties throughout the Country, then every initiative, every accomplishment is at risk in the future. As to trying to work with the republican party, why? They have never ever responded in kind (look at what they are doing in broad daylight in Georgia, FL, TX, and soon probably other states. Don't waste your precious time trying to work with these thugs. All they want to do is roadblock every successful path for Democrats and their policies.
