Had a Dr appointment in Sacramento Tuesday...Didnt really go anywhere, but we DID stop at the goodwill store, got drive thru, etc...
First time out of Tahoe since last year.
Today I woke up feeling "off" and it's not really getting better but not worse...
Started with aches (but I have arthritis so that's kinda standard, but ouch! Everywhere, not just the usual places) runny nose, sore throat, icky tummy, headache, and just not feeling very "present" no fever, but definitely running both hot and cold
Even laying in bed doesnt help.
Tried to get up and have a hot cuppa coffee, nope...had to switch to water.
no loss of smell or taste but I look at the onset for Covid and Im kinda worried
Hoping to shake this off and not get worse. Don't even know what to take...advil? pepto bismol? ugh

(4,886 posts)I've heard that the monoclonal antibody treatments are more widely available, and covered by most insurance. You just have to ask for them. Same treatment used by the orange one and other poobahs.
Good luck. Keep us posted how you are doing.

(45,442 posts)for the aches and headaches you can try over the counter pain meds like tylenol. For the icky tummy and sore throat, try hot herbal teas like peppermint, ginger, or similar.
Good luck

That, and after this long a period, muscles have to get back to work after not being used these past months.
Maybe that is a lot of what is going on in people at this point???????????

(32,639 posts)... we Americans should see colds and flu infections at an all-time low.
The vaccine won't prevent colds and flu, but masks, hand washing, and social distancing definitely does.

(90,683 posts)Theres a doc in California serving a lower-income community and he has been able to keep all his COVID patients out of the hospital using this treatment. His record on this is astounding. I think hes in SoCal. Best results are to start when the patient tests positive, not to wait until they are already terribly sick.
Because of the orange monster, we were all given the impression that monoclonal antibody infusion was fabulously expensive and available only to people like himself. Not so. Turns out theres plenty available, but not yet widely enough known. In addition, the infusion procedure takes time (I dont know how long; I hope she mentions it next time she does a report) it is not a difficult procedure, but not every place is set up for it.
Rachel is on one of her missions, God love her.
I hope you are just experiencing seasonal allergies and whatnot, though my mask is helping me with pollens. Flu is way down this past year because of masking, but if you werent, well thats a possibility too.
Take care of yourself, and check back in.
All of it
Good luck sister

(1,527 posts)Look like a pregnancy test but you put a drop of blood on them like a glucose test. I saw them do the test on my mother when she was diagnosed at her assisted living home.
I had a questionable illness 8 months ago, and you had to go to the ER and incur hundreds in fees. I am a week past my second moderna shot, but the free test kits are still great to know that they are available.
Most people can just go through the sickness as home, but when I called the ask a nurse line what they were worried about was if you lips turned blue you Oxygen levels have dropped dangerously low. Second difficulty breathing. Third was fever over 102f, and fourth was serious confusion. Any of these says get medical attention.
For me, I took Tylenol and imodium and it dropped my fever, and I had serious gastrointestinal distress that was relieved over the next 24 hours. I never had lung/breathing issues buy my Pulse/ox did drop below 90.
The problem now is that the latest variant is said to be much more transmissible. Hope you get better.

(6,446 posts)No really. The CDC and the NIH have removed the warning about Advil. At this point they are only telling people not to take Advil RIGHT BEFORE you get your shot. And that's because you shouldn't take any NSAIDs right before a vaccination.

(4,386 posts)When I feel off, I drink elderberry tea. It's anti-viral. That, and echinacea.
EndlessWire
(6,526 posts)Offering this off the top of my head...ordinarily I would check my facts better, seeing as how I can't quite remember as I read this thread...but goldenseal, used with echinacea, can act as a natural antibiotic.
It is important to remember that you can't take goldenseal constantly. You shouldn't get some and then put it in the daily lineup with echinacea. You have to take it one month, then one or two months off...someone here will remember and straighten that out. Or, you could do a google and get the info.
The thing about these two used in conjunction is, trials have shown that one opens the door for the other, and allows the good stuff into the cells. There are actual medical research trials that have shown this. So, that's why I mention it.
It's pretty well known that these two together are beneficial if used the right way--I am sorry that my memory fails me this morning. Always, always check before implementing a recommendation.
My knowledge is from when I was nursing my mother during her last days, and I had cause to investigate. Always remembered that the two go together. But, this is not medical advice...just a hint at what you should investigate for yourself.

(3,327 posts)If it's anything, I hope that it is just an old fashioned cold.
I hope you get better quick, and it's not Covid. You can take it easy, rest, drink, fluids, and if you get worse, call your health care provider.

(13,360 posts)still not sure if it helped or not... mild headache, throat still scratchy, sweated a LOT while laying in bed, and my aches are probably maybe from driving **fingers crossed**

(2,008 posts)so hydration is my first go-to for a headache (and is sometimes more immediately available than pain relievers.)
And my appetite tends to go bye-bye when I get a head cold or flu, taking any motivation to put effort into meal prep along with it, so I might get some Ensure or protein drink (or other meal replacement product) or at least some frozen meals. And if not eating much, I try and drink something besides water for my hydration. I currently have in stock a little Gatorade in case I get sick.
That's just some of the self-care that's gotten me through past bouts of flu. Your mileage may vary.

(13,360 posts)got a couple basics so the care and feeding of this body isnt too laboroius. I have also some smoothie stuff and protien shakes.
Drank water all day
didnt eat much, still got the gurgly tummy and such
had another mucus/sneeze and gross-fest this afternoon, gonna take an allergy pill when I know my little snack is gonna stay down...
could be allergy related too...the springtime stuff was blooming in the Sacramento valley, and then yesterday I saw my folks in the Carson Valley and things are sprouting there too! Two climates in three days could have tripped out my already fucked up immune issues
