It is not in our nature to run from a fight.

Some do it because they recognize there's no future for them in the South. It doesn't comport with their values or talents.

Others put in time in the South, then leave after they become exhausted by feeling outnumbered. Or maybe they want to live somewhere they don't feel as marginalized or disenfranchised.

Then there are others mentioned in the column who remain in the South because they are "shackled by family obligations, slim opportunities, economic limitations, or medical factors."

The overriding point seems to be that just because the region seems to greatly hold back the nation's potential, because there are people who want better and are being held hostage by their circumstances, the nation shouldn't abandon them. We all deserve a nation better than the vision that seems to reign Southern politicos now.

This is my home. I will not surrender my home to ignorant rubes.

Here I will stand. If I must stand along, so be it.

to stay in this republic.

We are more like Ontario, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and New Brunswick than Alabama or Texas.

That’s just the flat out truth.

Just a couple of examples...the majority of the states I mentioned above now have legalized recreational MJ. Abortion is legal and safe in every one of them.

Eventually our capital will be Ottawa and not DC...mark my words.

.... stays in, and loves the South because it's the only place I truly feel comfortable. Yep, even with all of its shortcomings, I wouldn't live anywhere else. I'm just.... ....home.

One more thing. There is a shitload of non Southerners who find the South a great place to retire to. Just ask anyone who lives in Hot Springs Village Arkansas. Funny thing is, most of them can only talk about how great it was up north. That always made me....😐🤔

is a little less unbearable if you happen to live in a blue city/ county. I lived in fucking nasty ass southeast Texas for the first 39 years of my life. I kept getting angrier and angrier with each passing year. Confederate fucking flags everywhere. You could feel the oppression the xtians were causing. Everyone seemed to wanna talk about fucking Jesus and wanting to know what church you went to. You either had to lie or be ridiculed for being a non-believer. Also, there isn't a fucking thing to do in these podunk redneck ass areas of the country if you're not a hunter or love taking your truck down to some mud hole to go muddin'.

Where i live now is still unfortunately in Texas, but it's light years away from the 3rd world (at best) shithole i left. There are people who read things other than the bible. Our neighborhood has nice amenities. There are plenty of things to do that actually enhance life within a short drive.

Best decision I ever made, so far.
