Kansas State Senate leader, arrested for DUI, fleeing cops, called officer ‘donut boy’

That tastes funny.

Mask-averse Gene Suellentrop, the recently arrested majority leader of the Kansas Senate, called a cop “donut boy” last month when the officer tried testing the Republican politician’s blood-alcohol levels, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained Thursday by WIBW.

The 69-year-old legislator’s blood-alcohol level was found to be twice the legal limit, was arrested just before 1 a.m. local time on March 16 for DUI and fleeing law enforcement, according to the affidavit.

The document says the senator made the doughnut remark in the intoxilyzer room. He had previously refused to take a breathalyzer test, only for a judge to sign a search warrant for his sample.

The lawmaker then turned “slightly aggressive in his tone” and looked the officer “up and down stating that he played state sports competitively in high school” and could “take me,” the document notes.

Prior to the arrest, Suellentrop was going 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, and in the wrong direction, according to the affidavit. In order to pursue him, officers had to similarly drive westbound in eastbound lanes.

The document states the lawmaker, driving a white SUV at the time, nearly hit another car.

In addition to the stench of alcohol, the officer saw the slurring Suellentrop had “watery, droopy” and even bloodshot eyes.
