How the word 'woke' was weaponised by the right

(The Guardian) How the word ‘woke’ was weaponised by the right

Like “politically correct” before it, the word “woke” has come to connote the opposite of what it means. Technically, going by the Merriam-Webster dictionary’s definition, woke means “aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”, but today we are more likely to see it being used as a stick with which to beat people who aspire to such values, often wielded by those who don’t recognise how un-woke they are, or are proud of the fact.

Case in point: (Washington Post) YouTube pulls video of DeSantis panel discussion urging no masks for children

In a statement shared with The Post on Friday, [Florida Governor Ron] DeSantis’s spokesman, Cody McCloud, called the video’s removal “another blatant example of Big Tech attempting to silence those who disagree with their woke corporate agenda,” arguing that the panelists’ academic affiliations qualify them to speak about the crisis.

Woke = not having my head up my own asshole and sees the world for everything that's wrong with it.

It's like the red pill blue pill thing that they love to toss around. The blue pill is reality. The red pill is to stay in a false sense of reality.

They claim they wanna red pill people. In their case. Put people in a false sense of reality for their own gain.

Sorry I'm blue pilled. I'm woke. I live in reality. Not a right wing propaganda fantasy land where donnie fat ass is still president.

Fox's brand of pseudo-intellectualism apparently creates the illusion by continually coining new (or hijacking old) terms and phrases.

I saw a Fox interview with Bill Barr, and as a non-Fox viewer I could barely follow what he was talking about.

The RW has their own version of 'woke'.

They now realize the importance of voter suppression with terms like 'voter integrity'.
