Kristine Hostetter was a beloved fourth-grade teacher. Then came the pandemic, the election and the Jan. 6 riot in Washington.

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. Word got around when Kristine Hostetter was spotted at a public mask-burning at the San Clemente pier, and when she appeared in a video sitting onstage as her husband spoke at a QAnon convention. People talked when she angrily accosted a family wearing masks near a local surfing spot, her granddaughter in tow.
Even in San Clemente, a well-heeled redoubt of Southern California conservatism, Ms. Hostetter stood out for her vehement embrace of both the rebellion against Covid-19 restrictions and the stolen-election lies pushed by former President Donald J. Trump. This was, after all, a teacher so beloved that each summer parents jockeyed to get their children into her fourth-grade class.
But it was not until Ms. Hostetters husband posted a video of her marching down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Capitol on Jan. 6 that her politics collided with an opposite force gaining momentum in San Clemente: a growing number of left-leaning parents and students who, in the wake of the civil-rights protests set off by the police killing of George Floyd, decided they would no longer
countenance the right-wing tilt of their neighbors and the racism they said was commonplace.

(5,125 posts)While I do believe it's a good thing that the school district is being encouraged to put out a non-racist curriculum and get their teachers to teach it....
WHAT you need to know about women in a racist household....
They are tied to someone by a religious committment that is for LIFE, better or worse.
That religion has actually encouraged women who have been beaten and raped by their husbands to stay in that marriage.
That even AFTER religion has changed their tune, the racist culture STILL uses it against women in these situations.
I see the HE is all about QAnon and she supports her husband.
THERE IS a level of accountability there, but.....
DOES that mean she pushes that agenda at school?
TO ME. THAT IS WHAT SHE SHOULD BE JUDGED ON in TERMS of her EMPLOYMENT, not that her feet followed her husband to the Jan 6th rally. I think a LOT of the crowd was there believing lies but never intended to become violent and in fact many did NOT behave violently.
SO I want to know what HER OWN ACTIONS say about her. Her ANGRY accosting of a family wearing MASKS and whatever she did at school as well as her presence Jan 6 are what she should be accountable for and not more presumed that she believes everything that HE says.
I guess even looking at someone who SEEMS likely guilty as hell and unfit to teach without discriminating against her students.....
IF she keeps her politics out of the classroom.... then I can't see firing her.
Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they will molest students. We know that. In fact most sexual predators aren't responsible gays who love adults and would NEVER touch a child wrongly.
It's VERY possible that she is swallowing up this insanity and spouting it at the kids. If so, YES, kick her to the curb BECAUSE IT'S BASED ON LIES and isn't fit to teach.
I guess I just believe in due process even for people on the opposite side, even for crazies, even for obviously guilty.
