https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/04/10/metro/years-boston-police-kept-secret-union-president-was-an-alleged-child-molester/The girl said she had been repeatedly molested from age 7 through 12 by former Boston police union president Patrick M. Rose Sr. Five more people soon came forward, accusing Rose of molesting them as children over the span of three decades, including the girls own father.
Rose being tagged as a child sexual abuser was news to the city when he was arrested and charged last summer. But it wasnt news to the Boston Police Department where Rose served for two decades as a patrolman.
A Globe investigation has found that the Boston Police Department in 1995 filed a criminal complaint against him for sexual assault on a 12-year-old, and, even after the complaint was dropped, proceeded with an internal investigation that concluded that he likely committed a crime. Despite that finding, Rose kept his badge, remained on patrol for another 21 years, and rose to power in the union that represents patrol officers.

(14,906 posts)Police cover up each others' murders, it's no giant leap to believe that they do the same for child molestation.

(962 posts)If you cover for cops that are committing crimes, you are not a good cop. If you turn your head and keep silent when one of your fellow officers is committing criminal acts, you are not a good cop. If you hide behind the protection of the police union when you know a crime has been committed by one of your own, you are not a good cop. If you participate in any way in the blue wall of silence, you are not a good cop. If you stay silent because you are afraid that your fellow officers will not cover your back next time if you speak up, you are not a good cop. If you know that cops regularly cover up their own criminal activities, you are not a good cop.
Now ask yourself; How many good cops do you really think there are? Telling yourself that it is only a few bad apples is tantamount to complicity. All cops are bad either by deeds or the failure to protect and serve. How long do we keep this communal delusion alive?
