2021/4/11 05:42 (EDT) ©TheAtlantaJournalConstitution
ATLANTA Long before he stormed the U.S. Capitol, Bruno Joseph Cua flashed warning signs he was headed for serious trouble in his hometown of Milton, Georgia.
Perched behind the wheel of his Toyota pickup with a Trump 2020 flag streaming from the truck bed, the 18-year-old harassed drivers whose vehicles showed support for Joe Biden or liberal causes.
He joined social media sites favored by the extreme right and filled up his feeds with screeds that became more strident following Trumps Nov. 3 loss. He wrote of acquiring an assault-style weapon illegally. And when Trump called supporters to Washington Jan. 6 for his Save America rally, Cua was all in.
President Trump is calling us to FIGHT! he blared in one post.
He joined the rally with his mother and father. Afterward, Cua fought his way into the Capitol, and pushed past security onto the Senate floor. A reporters video captured him pacing in front of the dais as another rioter sat in the chair and perched his feet on the desk that had earlier been hastily vacated by former Vice President Mike Pence.

(16,254 posts)Obviously, his parents allowed this to happen and even drove him to DC to listen to Trump's rally and BS. Now, of course, as per so many who participated, he has found religion and wants to be freed from GPS tracking.
According to some of his social messages, his mother isn't doing a very good job of home-schooling and needs more emphasis on spelling. He sounds like a privileged rich kid who never got disciplined, yet he wants us to believe he's changed since Jan. 6th.

(1,306 posts)He looks vaguely "asian" the same way, say, Ricky Steamboat does. Wonder if that has led to him getting racially harassed at any point during the recent upswing in anti-asian bigotry.
Ah well, just a wandering thought. Otherwise, I hope this kid gets 30 years. At least.

But I'm willing to bet he's Filipino.
Wonder if he's gotten the privilege of experiencing the racism he spews toward others spewed toward him in recent weeks. And, if so, if it could cause him to change his views... even slightly.
Likely not.
But I'm just speculating and playing what if...

(8,318 posts)Everyone who works in congress is a traitor to the people and deserves a public execution, Cua wrote on Parler after he returned to Milton.
He continued: Dear Swamp Rats, The events at the capital were a reminder that WE THE PEOPLE are in charge of this country and that you work for us. There will be no warning shot next time

(9,670 posts)I know far too many young people whose minds have been poisoned by their parents' relentless regurgitation of FOX pseudo-facts. One of my son's besties from grade school began spouting the right wing rhetoric in 6th grade; it was apparently stupidity by osmosis as his mother and father were both over the top 'conservatives'. His mother is Colombian and can barely speak the language, but the words she learned would all be contained in an article supporting white privilege. Ten years later and this kid has ingested so much Trump he shits orange. It doesn't help that, outside the city, the reds in Georgia are virulent and plentiful. Cua may be the subject of this article but he's probably viewed as a martyr for the cause down here.

None of these people are sorry. Theyre just trying to escape the consequences after they failed to install Trump as President. Im not buying the sob stories.

(836 posts)It's not the tens of thousands (possibly way, way more) in legal fees.
It's not even the jail time for Bruno.
It's now they have publicly dissed and disavowed Trump. The vast majority of their neighbors/community are MAGAs. They will now be labeled as traitors; ostracized and excommunicated.
Dollars to do donuts the family moves in the near future.

(18,973 posts)This point doesnt get focused on, but each and every one of those people that invaded the country hates American Democracy. They think they love America, but what they love is not America, its a fascist version of America told you them by Donald Trump.
They claim to be Patriots, but theyre really America hating insurgents. They hate our democracy and our constitution because it allows power to minorities and people they disagree with.

(3,055 posts)One of the very first things I go over with them is how to make a good decision. The word DECIDE is used as an acronym in this case, and the "C" stands for "consider the consequences". I always put that part in capital letters and red, because they never think about those. They only think of what they want to happen, not what could. Kid's brains actually shrink a little when they hit adolescence, and they become hard-wired for risk taking. I'll bet this jerk saw himself as some kind of "youth organizer" for The Cause, indoctrinating junior high schoolers into their hate filled web. He's 18. He may not be able to make the best decisions in the world, but he should know right from wrong. And if he had been paying attention in Government classes (which is doubtful), he'd have a basic understanding of how our government works, and how to "...petition the government for redress of grievances" within the law. Now that this family is learning that their white privilege isn't going to protect them against being seditionists they're all sorry and see the errors of their way?
Screw 'em. As their side of the aisle loves to scream, LOCK THEM UP.

(18,619 posts)It's an eye opening insight to brainwashing and herd mentality on a demographic that really shouldn't be following the orders of an aged and failing real estate man. But there he was, encouraged I believe, by his parents.

SNIP...
#7 The Lance
The lance, which is least considered, won many of the battles during the early crusades. The lance did it all in one big swoop. As the lance made contact with the victim, it immediately crushed his torso and began to pierce through the body.
As it pierced, it began to slice through the vital organs before exiting the back. There are very few cases where the would-be receiver of the lance survived from his torso wound.
As the knights charged in with their lances, the enemy would be impaled immediately.
The length of a lance measured between 9 and 14 feet. Given the length and weight, along with the rider and his horse moving a full speed, it would not be unthinkable to suggest that two or even possibly three men could be impaled to a lance due to a swift cavalry charge into enemy lines.

(11,560 posts)Certainly won't be a help with the Muslim Brotherhood, or the Crips, and I imagine the Aryan Nation values genetics over politics. It might be a lonely, agonizing row to hoe.
My advice to him is that, at the first suggestion of violence towards him, he pick the biggest and baddest of the group, walk up and smack him right in the mouth. Show them who's boss.
Might shorten his prison time from years to minutes.
