When Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell set conditions of release for accused Jan. 6 Capitol breach defendant Rachel Powell in February, she included an interesting provision in an order which required that Powell must wear a mask whenever she leaves her residence. Yet a video posted to a Pennsylvania bookstores Facebook page appears to show a woman who looks a lot like Powell inside the store wearing a mask made of mesh or netting which contains large gaps thus rendering the mask utterly pointless as a protective measure against the spread of the novel coronavirus. If, indeed, the video does portray Powell, the mask could test the boundaries of Judge Howells order.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorneys Office for the District of Columbia said the office declined to comment on the matter.
According to Judge Howells order, violating any of the foregoing conditions of release may result in the immediate issuance of a warrant for Powells arrest, revocation of release, detention, forfeiture of bond, and a prosecution for contempt of court.

Is that a mitigating factor for African American families too, though?

(21,555 posts)you think at some point a human mind with a SHRED of decency and sense of self preservation would go "geez, you know what, i fucked up, they have me dead to rights here, i better just straighten up and fly right and take my punishment." But this..... sicko..... does this. She's in all sort of trouble all ready and her reaction is to taunt the judge? WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???

(19,037 posts)The judge will probably jail her. This isnt a grade school situation where you can say, it just said mask, see, I wore a mask. The judge can violate her, hes not stupid, she knows what the order meant and disobeyed it to taunt him. Most judges would violate her and lock her up until trial.
