This was on the local PBS station a few weeks ago.

Isaac Woodward, a decorated WWII Army Sergeant, who had just been discharged, was pulled off a bus by police in South Carolina and, while still in uniform, was beaten so badly he was blinded. His case galvanized the civil rights movement.
