Trying to define an "assault weapon" by color, accessories, barrel length, materials, collapsible stock or whether they have that "tactical" look is pointless. One can get .223 cal. 30 rd. magazines for Ruger mini-14s, high capacity 12 Ga. shotguns or 33 rd. 9mm magazines for Glocks. All allow high rates of fire and quick reloads. The only thing that should matter is the potential lethality of the firearm.

M14, M16, M60, 1911 and the M2 tear gas dispenser. The M2 would do a job of them. Dispensed micro pulverized powder that gets into the skin, clothes, hair, and I swear most body cavities no matter how puckered.

In 1971 I was scoring the annual qualification on the M16A1. The guy in the fighting hole watched the 400 meter target pop up and did nothing. Saw the 200 meter target pop up and lit a cigarette. When the 50 meter popped up he put out the cig and flipped the selector switch to 'auto'.

Then the 20 meter target popped up and he emptied the 20 round magazine (yeah, back then the standard mag was 20 rounds) in about 2 seconds.

The range officer came over and started yelling about single rounds only on range and yada yada until the guy in the hole interrupted him and said, "Sir, I've got 10 days left in this Man's army. Where I've been for the last year that guy at 400 meters can't hurt ya' but the one at 20 is going to do ya' some dirt . . ."

The Lt took the score sheet from me, marked him expert, gave it back to me and saluted the short timer.
