Three Score and Ten - and Beyond

Psalm 90:10
King James Version
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

At the age of 75, I often remember that Bible verse. Since both of my parents managed to reach the age of 96 before they died, I suppose I have a pretty good genetic background, but I've watched many of my age peers die at this point. We seem, on average, to rarely live far beyond 70, although some people do, even living past 100 years.

Most, however, do not.

As I think about my age, I also remember that my parent started rapidly going downhill after reaching 90. The quality of their lives diminished steadily and visibly in their last six years.

So far, I see a doctor, still, only once a year. I imagine that will change in the next few years. So be it.

I'm now at an age where I frequently look back and assess my past. I'm comfortable with that past, and would not give my younger self advice to take any other decisions than I made.

I look forward, still, of course, and have major plans that will take place in the next few months, but I'm always aware that it is the direction I am moving, not the final outcome that is most important. I do not think in decades any longer, unless I am looking back in time.

Aging is inevitable. Death is inevitable. Living for today, tomorrow, and the near future is my plan. I can't predict any further than that.
