Biden set to meet with Democrats, Republicans in effort to shore up infrastructure support

President Biden is set to huddle with centrist Democrats and Republicans on Monday as he embarks on a new sales pitch in an effort to shore up bipartisan support around his roughly $2 trillion proposal to upgrade the nation’s infrastructure.

The White House meeting comes as congressional lawmakers return to Washington this week after a brief spring recess. Many members of Congress support new infrastructure spending, but they are at war over the size and scope of Biden’s plan -- creating partisan divisions that threaten to spoil early hopes for a swift political compromise on a signature element of the president’s economic agenda.

Biden plans to gather with lawmakers including Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell (Wash.), the top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee, and Sen. Roger Wicker (Miss.), her GOP counterpart. The panel plays a critical role in congressional debates around railroads and broadband internet access, which form a critical portion of the Biden administration’s infrastructure plan.

Reps. Garret Graves (R-La.) and Donald M. Payne Jr. (D-N.J.), meanwhile, belong to a separate panel of House lawmakers actively consideration legislation to fund and improve the nation’s highways and roadways while implementing new programs to reduce carbon emissions. They will also attend the meeting.

Cantwell is my Senator so I'm sure she supports Biden's plan. Not sure about her counterpart.
