Four Knoxville teenagers have been shot and killed in 2021.

All of them students at Austin-East Magnet High School, though officials have repeatedly said the violence is not associated with the school itself.

The community is shaken by the violence and frustrated at the response from police and elected officials. Neighbors want answers on how to resolve this citywide issue.

Here is a timeline of how the events have happened:

Unfortunately, Knoxville like many cities are reducing police presence in such areas and the results are a lot of dead young people.

11. This high school

has lost 4 students in very recent months (like the past 3, I think) to shootings. Only one has been solved, a young man shot in a car by one of his (supposed) friends. Of the other 3, 2 remain unsolved...one boy was shot from a house by a couple of boys who may have been shooting at random cars, so that one's maybe solved, but a lovely young girl was shot on her own block, and another boy was shot and dumped and no one knows anything. The kids are pretty traumatized and this is only going to make it worse.

Just reported: One male dead. Police officer shot but does not have life-threatening injuries. No other fatalities reported. One male being held for questioning.

Special Agent French of the ATF reporting that more information will be forthcoming this evening.

My neighbor and my sister have been texting me periodically with news as they hear it.

Police officer’s wife is saying her husband is in good spirits.
