"It is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their Taser but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet," Gannon said.

His intention? Seriously. This is how the PD is spinning this. If a police officer does not know where on his belt his taser and gun are, if he can't even recognize what, according to the police cam, is clearly in front of his face as he points it at Daunte Wright then he has no business on the police force.

It is perfectly clear what his 'intention' was.

Seems these trained professionals have a history of being unable to know what a real gun looks like. Just ask Tamir Rice. He died at 12 for playing with a toy gun. Daunte, 20, shot a 'mistake'. Their collective ages don't even add up to the age of men that shot them.

I suggest they find another line of work.. in prison.

I also saw some footage where someone said that officers are supposed to carry their gun on the hip on their dominant side, and their taser on the other side. He also said their gun weighs twice as much as their taser.

The officer yelled, "I'll tase you" several times before she shot Daunte Wright. It's possible that she made a horrible mistake, but she obviously had no business being a police officer if she could make such a stupid mistake.

I'm not saying that I don't think she intended to shoot Mr. Wright. It's difficult to believe that someone could make such a stupid mistake.

If, as a trained professional charged with protection of others, you can't tell the difference between a gun and a taser IN THAT MOMENT WHEN IT MATTERS THE MOST, then you shouldn't be allowed to carry either.

It's really just that simple.

I just heard Norah O'Donnell say the word "accidentally". If she had to put an adverb into her sentence it should have been "STUPIDLY" instead of "accidentally".

I haven't heard yet if the officer was fired. Absolutely fucking ridiculous.

At this point, law enforcement in Minnesota should be hanging their heads in shame for the behavior of some of their officers.

I wasn't satisfied with the outcome of the case of the shooting of Philando Castile, and they just keep cranking out the stupid up there.

Bring in the national guard to do policing.

It's clear that militarized policing of traffic stops for fix it tickets is cover for the crime of driving while black.

It's not the detectives, it's the street patrol guys who are chicken shit cowards. If they're that afraid, and make no mistake, that adrenaline was from fear and their fight or flight which says they get to fight, even if there's no threat, overrode any sense of propriety or reason.

The Chief thought he was clever in getting out in front, but exposed himself as a racist phuck too, by calling the community's reaction a riot.

Word choice matters, and the WHite power structure is losing their control of the narrative.

Good.

They are in different places in your gear, different weights, different gril and feel. If you're so adrenaline amped you can't tell the difference you have no business being a cop.

a horrible error. Apparently she is a long term police officer.

But, error or not, we’ve got another innocent victim killed. Mistake or not, it’s time to change how police operate.

claim to have all the answers. But, I could see that with everything going on that mistake could be made. Slim chance, but still possible.

That innocent until proven guilty thing still applies to cops.

Now what to do? Are cops who fucked up this badly "retrainable"? Should all cop training include reaction under stress?

It's a sad situation, and anger makes it sadder.

who used the precise same excuse -- thought it was my taser. 12 years later, are we really to buy that police departments haven't figured out some kind of ergonomics or something to make such a mistake impossible? This incident just piles up more evidence that police cannot be trusted with guns, or with tasers

Perhaps they should leave the gun black and paint the taser white. Then they will be absolutely sure if they live or die. If they are black aim the black one, white, well you get the picture.
