I received my first Covid-19 vaccine today. I am 79 and think I should have had the vaccine long ago. I didn't even feel the needle go into my arm. I had the Moderna vaccine.....so far no side effects.

(35,144 posts)It was hell finding an appointment here, but I did
finally get one on March 18. I get my second shot
Thursday.
The injection was painless, but I had a very sore
arm for a day and a half.
That was it.

(32,265 posts)The second one made me feel tired and a little feverish for a couple of days. It was well worth the minor discomfort fort the major sense of relief.

And yes, you should have been eligible and received an appointment a number of weeks ago. I know from my own experience that the rollout really depends on your county and local area. Some are good; some are really awful. At this point in time, my area has seemingly worked out the kinks. The vaccine supply is more plentiful and the sites more organized.
My husband and I received our 2nd Pfizer shots last Thursday. On our first round we waited 2 hours because of a computer mistake (twice the number of people scheduled than expected). This second shot? We were in and out in less than 30 minutes including a 15 minute post-shot wait for possible reactions.
So, once again congrats. We're getting to the end of this nightmare, finally.

(60,186 posts)We had to come 5000 miles to get it, but we did. We are ten years younger, but in Germany, they told us we MIGHT be lucky enough to get vaccinated in late August. Since we were going to be in North America anyway for something else, we asked my head office of they could get us a vaccination appointment, and they did.

When I got the 1st one I didn't do anything about the pain, 3 days later it went away. But when I got the 2nd one I massaged the arm with some muscle pain cream, VERY SOFTLY, just to allow the blood to circulate, and it only lasted 1/2 day.
Not sure if that works for everyone, but it did for me, I just wish it had occurred to me after the 1st one.
The one thing that did happen after the 2nd shot was that I got tired in the afternoon, went to sleep and what a nice sleep it was, I don't think I had slept that well for many years. It was a long nap, about three hours, but it was fantastic.
Good luck, happy for you.

(132,440 posts)first moderna last Friday. Did not even feel it (and I hate needles almost more than Rachel!!!!), and no reaction at all. Really wanted the J&J, but was willing to take any. Found out after that there were four other places that I could have gone and gotten much earlier. Grrrr.

(26,012 posts)to get it earlier. Some regions are better than others at getting people vaccinated.
I had my second Moderna on Friday. With the first one, I had very slight dizziness for about 30 minutes afterward and a very sore arm for 2 days. Did not feel the shot itself.
Second one, I felt a sting with the shot. Sore arm but not as bad or as long as the first one. The shot was at 10 am and I felt great all day afterward. Full of energy. Second day when I woke up, I had very mild flu-like symptoms. Slight aching in my upper back and behind my eyes. No appetite for a few hours after getting up. Sight nausea. All symptoms were gone within 8 hours.
One caution. I was so happy to get the first shot that I caught myself getting a little careless about distancing. Then I remembered that I still needed the second shot and did not want to catch covid before I got it. Still need to wear a mask even after the second one, but it does feel good to be better protected.
