Rinse & Repeat.
We're a shithole country. Always have been. Always will be.
It's o.k. to hope for and support change. Just do not be disappointed when it doesn't happen. And it won't.
There will be more cops killing black people and getting away with it.
There will be more mass shootings, with lots of news coverage, lots of people forming groups to protest guns, and Nothing will change.
Let me know when the tide starts to turn, because honestly, it is not only not turning, it is accelerating in the direction it's always been heading.
I've always heard how people will risk everything to come to the great land of America. While that's true, it's only because they're coming from somewhere even more fucked up than we are. There are certainly places worse than America, but also plenty that look on the day to day situation over here with complete disbelief.

(16,859 posts)I'm sad you feel that way. We NOW have some shithole people BUT we are NOT a shithole country! I love this country and always will. We just need to fight and get it back!!

(15,147 posts)We have our own particular ills in the US, and perhaps a few countries get the balance of good and bad better than we do, but every society is fucked up in some way, and some worse than ours.
This is not to say we shouldn't always be striving to make things better. We should. And we have a right to be angry at greed and senseless stupidity and violence. But I don't see the US as particularly more or less hopeless than humanity as a whole.
That isn't high praise, of course.

(51,567 posts)after hearing and seeing how great the US is compared to other countries. They move here and do find a lot of positive things about living here, but many are disappointed. They believed a fairy tale and saw the reality. It wasn't all bad, but not at all whet they had heard their entire lives.
