a pistol before you shoot it, so how could you confuse it with a taser?
I like Joy but only in the movies do you see people racking the slide before they shoot.
I believe US police will carry with a round in the chamber so you only have to flip the safety lever off. In this case the pistol looked like a Glock so the safeties are internal so the trigger IS the safety.
If you notice in the Windsor incident Gutierrez has his trigger finger laying along the slide, well outside of the trigger guard. This is the correct and safe way to hold your pistol until you are ready to fire(now pointing it at someone is another matter).
BOTTOM LINE: Hollywood loves to have their actors racking the slide frequently. In real life there is a round chambered already.

(15,751 posts)EXPLAINER: How does an officer use a gun instead of a Taser?

1 hour ago · This is the case in Brooklyn Center, where Gannon, the police chief, said officers are trained to carry a handgun on their dominant side and their stun gun on their weak side.

(26,311 posts)One of the many reason I dont carry a gun around is because the only way it would be of any use in say, a mugging or a car jacking, is to have a round in the chamber and the safety off.
Cops have no choice but to carry their weapon in ready to go status.

(35,296 posts)you just pull the trigger. I have another Ruger LC9s 9mm that has a safety. It is done in the movies looks cool I guess. The street gang guys in the movies always shoot their gun sideways don't get that either.

(35,296 posts)hundred rounds fired and nobody got hit. They used the sideways shooting technique I think.

(9,137 posts)They had a 9mm Glock and the went through a box of ammunition. All three used the sideways, one hand, grip. 50 rounds at 7 yards. No hits.

(12,354 posts)99.99% of LEO weapons are carried with a round in the chamber, ready to fire.
Most LEO weapons don't even have a manual safety to de-activate before firing, they use "Passive safeties" like a sensor looking for a finger on the trigger.
