I am sick of these credit card companies adding fake charges onto my accounts.
And of course when I call to get the charges off it is always, "Well you are a valued customer and I would be happy to remove those charges"
They are betting on the people who do not call about a $5 or $10 charge, (I think it is $5 from last month where I probably didn't even receive a bill and $5 for this month. And somehow $28.57 in 2021 in "Total interest charges" when I haven't used the damn card once.
The other one is one with AMAZON STORES that give you 5% back. I had a purchase on Jan 21 and on Feb 7th they charged me a late fee!
This has got to stop. This is fraud or theft of something that should be taken care of by law enforcement. Every single month now when I get a statement I expect fake charges. And I don't give a rat's ass that they are small amounts. Many companies make a lot of money by charging a lot of people small amounts that they hope will go unnoticed.
I've held onto the American Airlines card because I haven't used my miles yet and I'm afraid they will drop them if I cancel the card.
The Amazon card is CHASE
Maybe I should take them to small claims court instead of calling them. That way they have to send a representative here. I took my dentist to small claims court and received $5,000 from his sorry ass. AND I paid extra so a sheriff's officer would hand deliver the subpoena to his office. (Which he ended up paying for anyway since I won the case)

(33,643 posts)Usually you get either 7, 10, or 14 day grace period before a late charge. This is based on the statement closing date + a few days normally. If the closing date was 1/22, and you gave them $0 until 2/7, that's 16 days. It's therefore quite possible they did nothing wrong there.
"And somehow $28.57 in 2021 in "Total interest charges" when I haven't used the damn card once."
You're saying that your balance on this card has been $0 every single day of 2021, and you see $28.57 in total interest for 2021?
That would be highly bizarre if true, I've had cards my whole life and never seen something like that. I'd go back and check each individual 2021 statement and see what the interest charge was for each.
Maraya1969
(22,474 posts)that total interest for 2021 is $28.57
It is possible I put something on the card but I really do not use it. I use one card from my bank and when I but from Amazon it goes on another card.

If not you could go to arbitration, remembering the arbitrators are paid by them.
Most likely, you have signed away your rights to go to court when you accepted
card.
Your only likely option is to drop the cards and add new ones perhaps with your local
credit union.

(8,387 posts)...you may want to check the terms of your cardholder agreement, specifically...

At the election of either you or us, any claim, dispute or controversy (Claim) by either you or us against the other, arising from or relating in any way to this Agreement or your Account, or their establishment, or any transaction or activity on your Account, including (without limitation) Claims based on contract, tort (including intentional torts), fraud, agency, negligence, statutory or regulatory provisions or any other source of law and (except as otherwise specifically provided in this Agreement) Claims regarding the applicability of this arbitration provision or the validity of the entire Agreement, shall be resolved exclusively by arbitration. (20,572 posts)I am inching into it. Now I do for local utilities. My brother worked for his company's credit union and had problems with credit card companies withdrawing funds months after the person stopped the automatic withdrawals. One person I know had their account dinged several times in one day - after she stopped it. Each withdrawal had a fee attached when it was not covered. For these reasons I have been reluctant to do e-pay.

(43,286 posts)and all my bills come via e-mail or sms or app. I have not seen an actual paper bill in years. They are very frowned upon here in Sweden, as it contributes to pollution, wastes energy and natural resources and amplifies global climate change.

(2,440 posts)To me, a credit card is nothing but modern day usury. Debit cards fall into that same category as far as I'm concerned: too easy to spend money. If I need something, I'll go pull the cash out for it.
Bankruptcy altered my way of thinking quite a bit. I never, ever, want to be in that situation again. There are quite a number of alternative ways to pay for stuff if you research.
For large online purchases, I'll go to the grocery store and get an American Express "Serve" card. $2.95 fee and I can put the exact amount I need on it.

(10,638 posts)no annual fee, free credit monitoring , my FICO score every month. Fabulous customer service. Easy to reach a human being. Polite and helpful everytime.
I use a Discover Miles card. I get points like crazy. You can use the amount you accrue for any travel, any airline, Uber, Amtrak, anything.
You're smart to monitor your statement!

(46,192 posts)you can check all your charges going back for ages.
also you can set up text messaging or email notifications to let you know the moment there's any charge at all.
I think Chase's interest rates are a ripoff but I don't carry a balance, so it's sort of a non issue.
But because they are the only card I have that notifies you the *moment* a charge is made to your account (no delay at all), they are my go to card, so I'm notified after every purchase, even those little 3.99 ones for Washington Post for example.
Also, I set up a daily text notification (you can set up daily emails too) informing me of my balance.
There are so many charges to our accounts these days with various recurring things on our credit cards regularly, that anyone who is online should set up alerts to protect themselves from fraud, or simply overlooking legitimate charges you actually made or were legitimately made on your behalf.
Good luck with this.

(24,365 posts)They are two separate accounts. They may have an expiration date (if they do, you can find that as well as the terms on their AAdvantage website) but that expiration isn't tied to your credit card.
