Sen Cornyn draws criticism for tweet questioning if Biden 'really in charge'

The White House on Monday brushed off a tweet from Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) that suggested President Biden may just be a figurehead because of his carefully calibrated media presence. Cornyn earlier in the day shared a Politico story titled "The Biden White House media doctrine: Less can be more" and quoted a passage that notes Biden has done few cable news interviews, does not tweet frequently or with off-the-cuff commentary and mostly delivers scripted public comments. "Invites the question: is he really in charge?" Cornyn tweeted.

"I can confirm that the president of the United States does not spend his time tweeting conspiracy theories; he spends his time working on behalf of the American people," White House press secretary Jen Psaki responded when asked about Cornyn's commentary at a briefing.

Cornyn's tweet prompted broader blowback from Democrats and political commentators ... "Can the President govern without sending crazy tweets in the middle of the night ...? Yes, it turns out he can," Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) tweeted.

"Lord have mercy. You would think you would be lauding Biden for this. So you are criticizing him for actually spending time on his actual job? Maybe you (Sen. Cornyn) could consider doing that," tweeted Matthew Dowd, a former aide to George W. Bush.

Biden is doing his job.

It's not the president's job to be an attention whore on cable news programs like the last occupant of the White house. Biden doesn't need his ego stroked daily.

Biden's press secretary communicates the Administration's policies and corrects the constant barrage of disinformation and deliberate misinformation pushed by Fox and Friends and their ilk.

When Biden did give an hour long press conference, the press distinguished itself for its lazy questioning and shallow interest in actual governing.

I'm tired of having to justify Biden's positions as thorugh the GOP's stance is the default.

They are obstructionists in the way of progress, and progress should be the default position.

all Biden has to say is "Come on man! This is my presidency" and QAnon and Trump base will realized they are being lied to by the powerful people on the right. Everytime Biden says or does something that will positively effect the base it will dig the grave of the GOP. Not only is Biden good for them but the GOP are trying to stop him.
