Was fine and celebrating yesterday afternoon. Now, it feels like I have got a case of the flu. Fever, chills, aches and pains, etc.
They say it goes away in a couple of days. They also say this is a good sign it's effective.
Despite all that, please get the shot.
No one likes a root canal, but the alternative is much worse.
I would, however, appreciate some Chicken Soup.

(60,010 posts)6 days after 1st Moderna, I was suddenly floored with severe bone pain everywhere. Instantly hit, out of nowhere.
Couple hours later serious hand and arm muscle spasms. Maybe 10-15 minutes, then gone.
Total fatigue, next day felt as you say, bad flu, no appetite, zero energy.
Took about 5 days before I felt on the mend.
A nurse I talked to said yeah, delayed reaction is known, but the 2nd shot reaction is less severe.
I hope she is correct.

FWIW, a co-worker told me that she had identical side effects with both doses. Same thing -- muscle aches, headache, etc.

(15,324 posts)Considering the alternative, the side effects pale in comparison.
I'd like to thank President Obama whose foresight in fighting H1N1 and Ebola helped lay the groundwork for development of these RNA type vaccines.
The future is promising, as there is work on vaccines for everything from cancer to COPD.
Maybe not in my lifetime, but I do envision the Star Trek days where "Bones" will simply go over your body with a scan device to cure all kinds of disease and injuries.

(113,052 posts)Nausea and tiredness just starting to go away. Hoping the rash I had with first shot doesnt make a return appearance. It showed up 8 days after shot #1.

(26,260 posts)Strange enough, I didn't feel any after effect from the Pfizer vaccine until 2 or so days after the 2nd jab. Then it was a weird, persistent, dull headache that my usual headache tablets couldn't even touch. And, 36 hours later it simply disappeared.
spooky3
(34,444 posts)It lasted more than a week. But I havent heard others talking about this, so maybe I was reacting to something else.

Fine now.
Wednesdays
(17,362 posts)I received the vaccine at 1 p.m. Saturday. Sore arm within a few hours, then feeling sickly by bedtime.
Fever, chills, and body aches, arm hurt like hell all day Sunday. Same all day Monday, although things improved late in the day. Tuesday I was gradually recovering, and I was pretty much back to normal by Wednesday evening.

(205,295 posts)And I was afraid to get out of bed, felt woozy like I was going to pass out. And when I did, I felt violently sick to my stomach, but the only thing that lasted were the chills - for the duration of the day after the shot. That said, I'm both relieved and grateful that I was finally able to get it. Had Moderna shot #2 a week ago yesterday. And, as you said, it sure beats the alternative. Wish I could bring you some soup.

(44,973 posts)After second Moderna, I had a low grade fever, sore arm and feeling like i had a cold for a day and half. All better now.
Even arm is not sore anymore.
And yes, it's an indication that your body is making antibodies. It recognized the spike protein from the first shot, and now your immune system is responding by making more antibodies.

(6,039 posts)Like you I was fine the day of the shot.
The day after had a slight headache, was achy and a little nausea and I just felt like sleeping.
Two days later and with 9 hours of sleep I was almost back to normal and my stamina was close but not all the way normal.
I hated the day after but would do it all over again in a NY minute.

(14,642 posts)Congratulations on getting both shots.
My husband felt a little feverish after his 2nd Moderna, but just overnight on the 2nd night. Then he was fine.
I felt tired for about 2 hours in the afternoon of my 2nd Pfizer. I hadn't slept the night before, so it's hard saying for sure that the vaccination was the cause. Strange thing is that I react to absolutely everything, so I was shocked to do so well with the vaccinations. I only got mild fatigue, headache, and bruised-feeling arm from the first and it was all gone within a few days.
Everyone is different. Our daughter was feeling pretty crappy after her 1st Pfizer, but she still did things around her house, including putting together a filing cabinet. I figured she wasn't feeling that bad if she could just keep doing what she normally does.

(658 posts)The day after (Saturday) I felt like total crap. By Sunday I felt normal. My reaction to the first shot was less dramatic, but it lasted for about a week. My reaction to the 2nd shot was more severe but only lasted about 24 hours. My wife had no reaction to the 1st shot, save a sore arm. She had a strong reaction to the 2nd, and that lasted about 36 hours.

(981 posts)They do that to make sure you have no allergic reaction to the shot. Extremely low risk since the shot only contains common food grade stabilizers such as propylene glycol etc. other than the active ingredient mRNA

(1,477 posts)I went through the flulike symptoms for a day. My arm swelled at the point of the shot with an annoying burning itch. The swelling went down after a few days and the itch is almost gone. Even with the minor annoyances, Im so glad that I got the shot. I recently broke my glasses and today Im getting an eye exam without feeling the trepidation that I normally would have had.

(6,204 posts)Pfizer shot. Two days before I began using Gatorade-zero and water with electrolytes as part of the hydration process. I also ate more fruit and veggies - bananas, carrots, celery and tomatoes. I read somewhere that those foods helped with side effects if eaten prior to the shots.
This routine helped as I only had a very dull headache. Tylenol usually doesn't do a thing for me but it did take care of this particular headache.

(6,265 posts)so hopefully, yours too will pass... got mine at 3:15 pm. Got home. Was okay. Around bedtime 11ish not so good feeling. Slept. Woke up and just smacked down by moderna. Woozy, somewhat. Tired like all systems were saying...go back to bed. Some aches, pains. Just in spots, I haven't felt before. I stumbled around the house. Laid down. Watched movies. Ate a little. Drank plenty of liquids. Started feeling better close to bedtime, 2nd day. Woke up the day after, felt fine. I do commiserate though. Hope you got your chicken soup. I do not regret that I got inoculated, either. Peace.

(1,336 posts)that has said anything along the lines of "If you have major side effects, it means the vaccine is working"? I keep hearing and reading about this but I don't think it's true.
Because we don't yet have the facilities to produce our own vaccine (we used to, but Conservative Party shortsightedness sold Connaught Labs some 20 years ago), we have to depend on supplies from the US and other countries. Because of that, we're getting our second shot about 4 months after the first.
So I'm wondering what the reactions will be to the second shot - which essentially acts as a booster. I'm suspecting that the s/e's may not be as severe, because the body has ample time to manufacture antibodies.
I guess we shall see! I had no reaction to the first Pfizer shot. Second one due in July.

(777 posts)Serious fatigue set in about 6 hours after the jab. Next day like flu without the respiratory crud; chills, queasy, aches & pains (in addition to my usual), etc. Didn't feel even close to normal until 48 hours after the shot. On the other hand, a friend, a year older (71) walked the 5 mile pilgrimage from the Santa Rita shrine to the San Lorenzo mission church the day after his 2nd.
Worth it.
We need to go to Arizona to check on our property there (satellite photo shows something odd), but with an infection rate several times what we have here, think we'll wait until a week after my wife's 2nd Moderna.

Sore arm. Felt tired and a little flushed last night. Fell asleep early. Mostly hanging out on the couch today. Slight headache, which responds well to Tylenol. I have the day off, so Im indulging myself. Hubs slept in and went into work for a half day.
Just happy to be vaxed!

(24,653 posts)Like the first shot, the only side effect I had was arm pain. Instead of hitting me at the 12 hour mark, it started up three hours later and then hit like a ton of bricks at the 10 hour mark. Instead of feeling swollen and bruised, like I'd been hit by a bat, it felt like I woke up in a surgical recovery room right as a nerve block wore off.
Twice that night I woke from dreams about being post-op. I've had multiple surgeries on feet and wrist, so know the type of pain intimately. Definitely felt like I'd been under the knife down to the bone.
Fortunately, that was gone the next morning and back to the swollen/sore feeling. By Monday morning I was just fine. So the pain was more intense, but was gone faster than the first shot. I think I was sore for five days after that one.
Very mild low grade fever Saturday afternoon that was gone by bedtime. Otherwise, nothing else to report.

The first, I got a bit of a very mild headache about 30 minutes after..lasted maybe five minutes. Later that afternoon, moved my arm and "oh, that's what the pharmacist was talking about", very sore arm. My wife, not so much...but out cold early that night and morning.
Already told work, don't be surprised if I have to vanish a day or two after the second.

(854 posts)The morning after that (day 2 after shot) I was pretty much in a stupor until around noon. After that I was fine and have been since. Was it vaccine related? No idea, but given how bad I felt that morning versus my usual self, maybe. Generally I have to be pretty sick to feel that ill. Whatever. It was temporary.
