Donald Trump is not the problem - the problem is the Republican Party.

Nicki Haley gave an interview where she said that what Donald Trump did was wrong. Furthermore, she said the Party could never do that again. Then, she said she would vote for Trump in 2024 if he was the nominee?? What the hell is wrong with her!

John Boehner has a book out right now which he is making the rounds and trying to sell. He was very critical of Donald Trump and the insurrection of January 6th. He acted as if he had found religion. Then he said he had voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020? What the hell!

Mitch McConnell gave a speech on the floor of the Senate. He came right out and said Donald Trump was responsible for inciting the insurrection of January 6th and that we had a justice system and civil courts that could handle the crimes he committed. This was after he voted to acquit him in his impeachment trial. For God's sake, if you believe he is that guilty, you do not acquit! What the hell!

Every Republican in the House and Senate knows that he incited the insurrection and is responsible for what happened in our Capitol. It was sedition. It was criminal.

Yet, they continue to support the incompetent loser.

Who is to blame?

He brainwashed my brother via his radio program back in the late '80's...my brother was a long-haul trucker back then who constantly listened to reichwing radio.

I think reichwing radio has had a significantly huge effect on folks who were/are on the road a lot. As DUer Certainot has frequently posted, the 1500 coordinated unchallenged, reichwing radio stations have all been singing the same tune. And still are.

I believe she is telling Republicans “If you want me to run, get rid of T***p.” That puts the ball in Orange’s court and he will have to shit or get off the pot soon for the Party.

And, she is making an early point to Republicans that she is a solid Party cheerleader. It’s politically smart for her to commit to backing T***p. It’s Win-Win from all angles.

She isn’t a stupid politician. Her moves are calculated. IMO.

to backing him then away from him then back again to saying she'll vote for him. The negative ads write themselves for republicans in their primaries and for Dems in the general if she somehow gets that far (I doubt it).

I though she was smart when she distanced herself by stepping down from his UN Ambassadorship. But her moves since then...nah! Dumb.

She's toast.

about Al Gore back in 2000? To my memory, it mostly boiled down to him being too much of a "flip-flopper" for some of his various positions over the years. Turn about is fair play - and the "flip-flopping" on the part of the pubbies of "I was against him before I was for him" when it comes to the last guy should become a huge cudgel to hang around their necks. If Gore was a "flip-flopper", then he was a piker compared to the obscenities and obscenity these guys grabbed ahold of to push this wanker into office. And yet most of them continue to kiss his ample posterior to this day. Take that and use it -very publicly and very loudly.

Conservative Ideology was behind the secession of mostly Democratic run states in the 1860's. Conservatism was against the Labor movement from the 1880's to the 1930's and beyond. Conservatism was against the Civil Rights movements in the 1960's. The Dixiecrats (Southern Segregationist Democrats) switched parties from the late 1960's to 1980's because Republicans abandoned moderation and liberalism and veered hard right to reactionary conservatism.

Conservatism is the ideology developed in defense of Absolute Monarchy during the French Revolution. Those defenders never went away, even though Monarchy did as an common form of government. They switched their beliefs into advocating the same Top down structure but with wealthy White merchants as the new "monarchy". When this is your basis for leadership, you will inevitably end up with an authoritarian government structure and a demagogue.

from the loss of power in D.C. It becomes more apparent every day how much wealth and power resides behind the Republican party, and not any one person. They sure do like to talk off the same script no matter where they are.

They're more worried about Democrats trying to make this country more fair, instead of encouraging the growth of established wealth as they do.

It reminds me of a jury that allows police criminality to go unpunished, even if they hate the cop's behavior, because they worry a conviction is a slippery slope to no police force at all.

a sardonic sense of humor. The system allows us to go to the edge, but not fall over.

We started with 13 largely agricultural states, each having its own traditions and practices. The main rule was that they couldn't go to war with each other. It took 71 years for them to break that one.

Now, we have 50 largely industrial states, and we do almost nothing the way we did it in 1789. The system allowed Reconstruction to fail miserably, our largest cities to be run by criminal machines, and various factions to run amok.

The system allowed Hearst to lead us into the Spanish American War, and Walter Winchell to set our moral tone. It allowed Hoover to set up an elaborate domestic spy and propaganda machine.

Somehow, though, we managed to survive all this, and worse. The genius part of those 18th century jokers came through and we are the one of the few major nations to come out of these upheavals intact.

Of course I can't predict the future any more than anyone else can, but I do hope that we can and will survive this mess.

It's people accepting it that blows my mind. Maybe the average R really is just that dumb.
