Key Findings of the Inspector General's Report on the Capitol Riot

Tweet text:

1) Trump told these people to come to DC on Jan 6.
2) He TOLD them to march on the Capitol.
3) Why? To intimidate them into overturning the election and letting Trump remain in power.

He was the person without whom none of this would have happened.
The 104-page report is one of the most searing portraits yet of the lapses and miscalculations around the most violent attack on the Capitol in two centuries.

Intelligence failures, orders to use less aggressive measures and equipment breakdowns contributed to the Capitol Police’s botched response, a watchdog found.

A new report by the Capitol Police’s internal watchdog found that department leaders overlooked key intelligence in the run-up to the riot on Jan. 6, including a warning that “Congress itself is the target,” and barred the force’s riot response unit from using its most powerful crowd-control measures.

The 104-page document, entitled “Review of the Events Surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Takeover of the U.S. Capitol,” is the most searing portrait yet of the lapses and miscalculations around the most violent attack on the Capitol in two centuries. It adds significant new detail not unearthed in congressional hearings and is likely to inform a coming overhaul of the agency promised by lawmakers.

Michael A. Bolton, the Capitol Police’s inspector general, classified the report as “law enforcement sensitive” and has not released it to the public. But The New York Times reviewed a copy before his testimony to the House Administration Committee, scheduled for Thursday.

Here are the highlights.

Capitol Police leaders ignored or overlooked intelligence reports warning of attacks on lawmakers.

The department’s own intelligence unit, which monitors potential threats, warned three days before the riot that supporters of President Donald J. Trump, motivated by his false election fraud claims, were targeting Congress and could become violent.

“Unlike previous postelection protests, the targets of the pro-Trump supporters are not necessarily the counterprotesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself is the target on the 6th,” said a threat assessment from Jan. 3. “Stop the Steal’s propensity to attract white supremacists, militia members and others who actively promote violence may lead to a significantly dangerous situation for law enforcement and the general public alike.”

Who ordered the subdued response to the insurrection? Are they still on the job and if so why.

What equipment failed and what was the backup? If no backup, why?

Who ordered the intelligence reports to be ignored? We need accountability.

These are just a few of the obvious questions that need to be answered.

on January 6th, are still able to walk free in our country.

They need to be found out, and put away. Otherwise, we are doomed for this to happen again.

And that is why Trump is sitting in Florida talking about the GOP winning in 2022 and 2024—because the criminals who put January 6th together are still walking free in our country.

What happened on January 6th, is THE greatest attack on our constitution—EVER!

Oh and FUCK YOU PUTIN!!!!

Gave out the day, the date, the time, and the place in inviting the seditious mob to D.C..

Helped to pay for the mob with Trump campaign funds.

Decapitated the D.C. National Guard so they could not respond to the riot.

Told the seditious violent traitors after the had killed people, wounded >100 police, and caused
$30 million dollars in damage that he loved them.

at Mar-a-Lago because their hero is offering them 3 free days of fun in the sun to show his appreciation. Trump needs to feel the love the same way members of Congress, their staffs, federal employees and the dead and injured police officers did. As much as he deserves federal charges and a prison term, it's unlikely he'll get more than a slap on the wrist - if that. It's disappointing we have yet to see one indictment hit this character for anything. He probably gets his parking tickets forgiven.

political advantage is desired, which is a chronic push on certain subjects. But its investigative journalism is world class, and it's still easily the single best source for national news. We have subscriptions to the WaPo, LA Times, and AJC, and not even WaPo compares.

Definitely have to check its reporting against others, though. Especially and always when a story could be used to decrease support for Democrats. To this day poor Hillary can't even be appointed to a commission after the NYT put its enormous weight behind turning a good, dynamic woman into an evil witch.
