Colton Underwood is gay.
The former Bachelor came out to Robin Roberts in a Good Morning America interview that aired Wednesday morning.
Ive ran from myself for a long time, the 29-year-old said in the pre-taped interview. Ive hated myself for a long time. I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know.
Underwood, who realized he was different at age 6, said hes now the happiest and healthiest hes ever been, but admitted to finding himself in a dark and bad place before realizing his truth.
Overall the reason why now is because I got to a place where
I wouldve rather died than say Im gay, he continued.

I never watched that crap nor do I care that a handsome young man is gay but this is one more example
that reality TV isn't real. Next thing you know we will find out that Donald Trump really isn't a billionaire
or even a millionaire and "his act" is just one big con.

(53,338 posts)He seems like he is much happier now that he has come out. I do wish him well. It should be noted that he did date one of the women from that show after it was over, so this wasn't some sort of purposeful lie being told to the world by producers.

(53,338 posts)with women who they didn't tell they were gay. I am in a fairly small gay men's chorus (about 25) and 3 were married to women at one point, and none were marriages of convenience nor do the men identify as bi or straight. It was a not uncommon thing for gay men to do not all that long ago. I can't totally speak to this particular guy, but from his interview it sounded like he was also fooling himself.

One of the reasons I stopped staring at a screen with a remote control in my hand, that show, and lies about WMD's
None of it real, or the least bit worthwhile. TV is a complete waste of time
And yeah it begat us a reality TV president, who sat around watching TV all day

I don't watch the Bachelor, but if they had done a same-sex season, I might have watched.
I don't know how many seasons of the Bachelor there have been, but shouldn't there have been a same-sex season by now?

(35,032 posts)I'm glad he's living his truth now. It was obvious to me that he was struggling. I thought he might be gay, but I got the sense that he was really tornunsure of who he was and what he wanted.
I hope that he can live his best life now, free from the demands and expectations of everyone else.

(25,246 posts)It really turns out that reality TV is nothing but deceptively edited, unscripted fiction, exploiting unsuspecting people who want a fast track to fame.
We should rename this genre of television programming "unscripted TV", sending the message to the viewing public that what they're about to see is not real.

(8,780 posts)Underwood was obviously in denial. Hell, even Pete Buttigieg refused to accept his sexuality until he was 33 iirc.
That said, those shows are bogus bullshit anyway
dsc
(53,338 posts)Mr. Underwood seems to have been less accepting of himself than Pete. In other words, I think Underwood both despised himself and feared the consequences of being honest, while Pete mostly feared the consequences of being out in the military and Indiana politics.
