'Constantly rubbing dirt in our face': GOP senators complain Biden keeps passing bills without them

'Constantly rubbing dirt in our face': GOP senators complain Biden keeps passing bills without them
https://www.rawstory.com/joe-biden-senate/

A handful of the Senate's more moderate Republicans thought they would be at the center of legislative negotiations with President Joe Biden, but instead find themselves on the sidelines as Democrats push ahead with a sweeping agenda.

Members of the so-called G-10 say they're eager to negotiate deals with the White House, after steering COVID-19 relief under former president Donald Trump, but they're instead largely irrelevant and unable to shake the GOP reputation as obstructionists, reported Politico.

snip//

Staffers complain that the White House is "constantly rubbing dirt in the face of Republicans" by inviting them to White House meetings as Senate Democrats push through legislation with their narrow majority through reconciliation.

"If you get an invitation to the White House, you go to the White House," said another G-10 staffer. "But regardless, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. When you go to the White House meeting you risk being used in a feigned attempt at bipartisanship. If you don't go then it's, 'Oh, Republicans won't even meet with me.' It all pivots on whether it's a genuine offer from the White House or just part of their messaging strategy."

The senators -- including Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) -- may not like the situation, but they grudgingly concede that Biden's White House has firmly grabbed control of the narrative.

"Everything they support is defined as either COVID relief or infrastructure, and everything they oppose is like … Jim Crow voter suppression and evil," said a G-10 aide, "and you constantly just feel like you're in this gaslighting chamber of insanity. But it's working."

and they think that it entitles them to dictate legislation to the majority. They will continue to whine because unless Biden is passing a conservative agenda, it isn't bipartisanship.

Also, almost anything can be considered something having to do with infrastructure. Physical infrastructure (roads, bridges, electrical grid, rail, ports, etc...) Social Infrastructure (programs for homelessness, unemployment benefits, child care to allow people to work, and education). Since Reagan, Republicans have allowed both types of infrastructure to rot.

Republicans do not want government to be involved in providing for any of it. They want it all to be private and FOR PROFIT. If someone can't get filthy rich off of it, then it isn't any good to Republican society.

They are playing games. It is time the media stop coddling them and make them answer tough questions, like why they have no apparent interest in fixing any of the problems in the country.

For any Republican, moderate or not, to talk about being trapped in a gaslighting chamber is beyond ridiculous.

I would suggest if they do not want to be labeled with Jim Crow monikers, then they should be speaking out against voter suppression that their own party is pushing. If they want to be considered relevant, then they should be out there criticizing the neo-Nazi stance of a Tucker Carlson, replacement theories that are poisoning the minds of their own electorate.

The victimization tune marks them indelibly as current members of the GOP. Evil is as evil does. They want to be free of the moral complications? Leave the Republican Party and come into the light.

"Everything they support is defined as either COVID relief or infrastructure, and everything they oppose is like … Jim Crow voter suppression and evil," said a G-10 aide, "and you constantly just feel like you're in this gaslighting chamber of insanity. But it's working."

That describes what Republicans have been doing for decades & it reached a peak under Trump.

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2021/04/14/a-gaslighting-chamber-of-insanity-moderate-republicans-seethe-at-biden-492469

snip-The “G-10” senators are: SHELLEY MOORE CAPITO of West Virginia, BILL CASSIDY of Louisiana, SUSAN COLLINS of Maine, JERRY MORAN of Kansas, LISA MURKOWSKI of Alaska, ROB PORTMAN of Ohio, MITT ROMNEY of Utah, MIKE ROUNDS of South Dakota, THOM TILLIS of North Carolina and TODD YOUNG of Indiana.

snip-"In the span of a few months, the G-10 has gone from the center of politics in DONALD TRUMP’S Washington to the policy sidelines in President JOE BIDEN’S.Back to the nightmare. It starts with what they see as some hardwired media narratives they can’t shake: that Biden is a reasonable, deal-making moderate and that Republicans talk about compromise but really just want to obstruct. It’s a perception that has given the White House all the leverage.

While these senators mostly despised Trump, they were the engine of policymaking for his final Covid relief bill. While they mostly respect Biden, they have so far been irrelevant to his legislative push despite his inaugural promise of “unity.”

suffer GOP senators you danced with the devil.

Oh, did I mention they're IN THE CONGRESSIONAL FUCKING MINORITY?

Apparently you've completely forgotten about the gaslighting that's gone on since Reagan, more or less unabated. And bipartisanship? Oh, golly.

It seems a case could be made that, to your part, bipartisanship is a situational concept to be trotted out in the middle of a difficult scene of your psychodrama. Remember these?

"The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat." (retweet)

"Do you identify as a Democrat, or an American?" (survey question)

“The violent mobs... they're Biden people, they're Biden states and cities, they're Democrat states,” and, of red states of red states, “we're doing great and we don't have crime and we don't have this violence.”

“The current American political scenario is not about the Left vs. the Right; it is about the Left vs. common sense.”

I'm sure I could go on all day, finding and pasting these quotes about sincere intentions and bipartisanship, but there seems to be no point. I submit that, your claims to the contrary, your view of bipartisanship needs a little refocusing.

right along with them, no matter how moderate you think you are.

Republicans were consulted on the ACA and some of their input was included but not a single one voted for it.

And now they wonder why nobody bothers with them any more.

While Collens, Murkowski and Romney have voted against the most egregious excesses of the GQP bloc, their votes can't be counted upon for moderate legislation. They have no one to blame but themselves.

It must be shocking to realize the Democrats have finally fired up their own steamroller. It's past due.

The Senate can only use Reconciliation once per budget. Because the Republicans failed to pass a 2020 budget, this Senate gets two budget bills in the year. That’s it. Thanks to the filibuster, this is all that will happen this year.

Doing it twice because the previous Senate was stupid isn’t ‘rubbing the face’

Expecting a positive outcome through bipartisanship. ACA for example. Compromises made, amendments included, with much time expended -- and to a number they STILL stabbed him in the back when it came time to pass legislation. To Biden's credit, he learns from history, avoids repeating the same mistakes, and proceeds accordingly.
