Rep. Steve Scalise Caught Holding a Milk Carton Declaring Kamala Harris Missing While VP is Doing a Border EventBy Colby HallApr 14th, 2021, 11:13 am
Rep. Steve Scalise has earned a reputation for making stark and damaging claims against his political rivals that eventually prove to be entirely wrong. Who can forget the numerous times that he falselyand dangerously irresponsiblyclaimed that Democrats were in favor of murdering babies? Now there is a new entry to the growing canon of Scalise proving himself wrong.
While covering a GOP Leadership press conference Wednesday morning, Punchbowl founder Jake Sherman tweeted an image of Scalise holing a milk carton mocked up to feature Vice President Kamala Harris in what can be fairly called a sophomoric political stunt designed to bring critical attention to the notion that the VP has been absent from what the GOP insist is a crisis of illegal immigration at the US border.
The only problem with Scalises ill-planned stunt? At the very time, this photo was taken, Vice President was leading a virtual roundtable discussion focused on diplomatic issues with Mexico and Northern Triangle nations (Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala) that lay at the root of the migration problems the nation currently faces.

(40,209 posts)I am sorry that Mr. Scalise suffered such terrible injuries from the baseball shooting and I am glad he survived.
But apparently almost dying has not caused him in any way to think about the purpose of his life, which apparently he thinks is to behave more of a jerk with each passing year.

He has since set about rectifying that situation.

(10,270 posts)I would go find a mic, and offer Statehood to EVERYTHING between Texas and Columbia (including Cuba, Hati, and the Dominican Republic).
Because fuck you, that's why. You republicans claim to love america so much, what could POSSIBLY be the issue with making america accessible to MOAR PEOPLE?!?!
Let them vote.
Let them sign up if they want.
And watch the rascists heads explode in opposition. Because you and I both know thats EXACTLY what would happen.

(6,522 posts)Do you see the sarcastic gif here? I thought it is a nifty idea. There is nothing to stop us. If we wanted to create a "pathway to statehood," we could set it up.
I'd really like D.C., Puerto Rico, and all other US territories to be offered statehood, for starters. I am not an economist, so I don't know how it would go for taxes and fixing them up, etc., but I favor any advantage it could give them, like expediting disaster aid, etc., or whatever.
But, only if the people living there want it. It would have to be whatever they wanted, including the possible split from being our territory and becoming a separate nation.
I didn't mean to offend you. Sorry. I have a dying cat on my lap, and I shouldn't have posted so briefly. It's just that I was taken with the idea of Biden calling a press conference and just announcing that everybody is in who wants to be. And, that would be very distracting. I thought it was funny!

(10,270 posts)First, for your kitty.
Please understand, I wasnt trying to be mean...sometimes, folks dont know theres a Sarcasm Thingie, and you have to ask.
I appreciate that you think it's a good idea. Yes, it should he up to them. One of the benefits of being part of the Union is things like federal building codes, despite the fact that republicans would rather just not.
The rest of the western hemisphere isnt discussed much in democratic party circles as a national security issue (and the Monroe Doctrine wasnt exactly great in its reasoning, I'll grant that caveat); however...
My reasoning is that if the FBI and DEA does not have an active field office set up in Havana 2 weeks after the Castro Regime falls, you can bet your sweet fuckin bippy the Five Families and the Russian Mob sure as hell will.
We have, in a lot of cases by necessity I'll grant, ignored most of Latin America for far too long. This might sound imperialistic as fuck, but it's our natural sphere of influence and we should treat its 'care and feeding' with as much positive influence as we possibly can. Offers of statehood would be messy as hell in the short term for sure, but I think its important to our national security into the 22nd Century. Yeah, that a long way off. But still. I like positive visions of the future, I guess lol...

(82,849 posts)But as we know, this is just the latest hobgoblin to bedevil the little minds on the right. First it was "Biden hasn't held a press conference!" Biden has now held as many press conferences as the former guy did his first year in office. So that shut them up. Now, it's "The Vice President hasn't held any press conferences!" Right. I sure do miss all those press conferences Mike Pence used to hold.
Frickin' nonsense, but it's easier than actually coming up with any ideas, and guys like Scalise are still drawing their paychecks.
