A retired White South African physician who is playing expert at a variety of areas of medicine is testifying on behalf of the white police officer. This man would have grown up during Apartheid, steeping in that tea. And now says that the knee on the neck didn’t cause the death of African American George Floyd. This is beyond disturbing. I wonder what his history is of siding with white people in his “professional “ testimony.

Desmond Tutu was on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission after apartheid ended in South Africa. His book was about his experiences and the testimony he heard on the Commission. Just reading about the depredations visited on Black South Africans was nauseating; I can't imagine sitting through the perpetrators' testimony day after day for months on end. (The deal was that White South Africans and their accomplices who appeared before the Commission were absolved of guilt for whatever heinous acts they confessed to.)
