His world is one of rank, position, and threat of punishment

He sees the “kid” as being lesser in rank. His wife is lesser in rank. He feels he has a position to tell this person what to do. If not initially obeyed he becames aggressive as a means of emphasis and to re-establish himself self as superior and dominant.
