The logo for the city of Placerville has included a noose since the 1970s to highlight the history of the town that included a nickname Old Hangtown. Since the horizontal lynching of George Floyd, the noose has riled this small foothill community. Thanks to the tireless effort of the local BLM group, the city council voted unanimously to remove the noose from any display associated with the city
Mind you, Placerville is a small town in a very right wing area of California. This, I believe, is an indication that the tide has decidedly turned.

(7,287 posts)I've never been there I don't think. Though I might have driven "by" in a manner of speaking, on the way to Grass Valley and onward to Nevada City. Always driving through Auburn, seems like Placerville was somehow nearby.
Yeah, I know, Deep Red Territory, but wow.

(7,287 posts)Did a concert tour and one of our gigs was in Grass Valley back in '99, we stayed in a Hotel somewhere close to downtown.. if I remember right. Never saw anything like on our menu. But actually, to be honest, I'm not sure if I had seen it, I would have understood it as anything but kind of hick like. If I were there now, and I saw that, I'd be acutely aware of the meaning.

I am sure they can find a better thing thier town can be known for than that.
