Tucker Carlson's revealing slip of the tongue stuns observers: 'Every day he becomes more and more explicit'Cody Fenwick, AlterNet
April 15, 2021
On Wednesday evening, Fox News host Tucker Carlson let slip a fleeting but surprising turn of phrase that promptly stunned many of his critics.
While discussing the treatment of a man charged as a part of the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, Carlson tried to draw a comparison to the case of Bree Newsome, a filmmaker and activist who tore down the Confederate battle flag at the South Carolina statehouse in 2015, leading to her arrest.
But when Carlson described the incident, he didn't describe her tearing down the "Confederate flag," but simply "the flag" a phrase that in American English typically refers to the American flag.
It was noteworthy for at least two reasons. First, Carlson seemed to be downplaying the commendable political motivations behind Newsome's act of protest. And second, it seemed to suggest his sympathy for and alliance with the Confederacy.

So he's either trying to mislead his vile fans by slandering Newsome, implying that she tore down the American flag or he's trying to lock up the white supremacist vote for his 2024 presidential run. Probably both.

(5,896 posts)In my defense, I was a preteen and a teenager. If someone wants to fly the Confederate flag, unless they're reenactors (and I know several...play Army once in a while), you don't get my business. Your choice, but actions have consequences.
I see a big one displayed alongside the Chesapeake Expressway right by the EZ Pass toll booth, but it's on private property. There's another display near where I-64 and I-295 join near Richmond. I just saw that one for the first time and assume it's also on private property.
Support losing traitors all you want, but don't ask for my business or my vote.

(5,896 posts)They didn't know better, and would have done what they were told was the right thing to do. The officers, especially the senior officers, many of whom were West Point graduates? Traitors. No other word for it. They had gotten an outstanding education at taxpayer expense, and they had taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The oath of office, by the way, hasn't changed significantly over its life. The oath I've taken several times reads the same.

Cable systems need to drop Fox until Tucker is fired. This cannot stand without a response from the people hosting the channel.
