The vehicle soon stopped near Hwy. 15 and Freemont Avenue. When the officer tried to engage the suspect through the driver's side window, the suspect took off "at a high rate of speed" with the officer trapped and hanging from the window, Gifferson said. During the struggle, the suspect hit the officer in the head with a hammer, he said.
The officer is hospitalized in stable condition, and the suspect was arrested, police said. The McLeod County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
And nobody got shot or tased that day.
Guess why.

(50,271 posts)arrest. Good lord. You couldn't ask for more proof of unequal treatment by police if you tried. Outrageous.

(10,177 posts)with the sole purpose of demonstrating how the rights of citizens are often violated when dealing with the police, and showing citizens how to assert their constitutional rights during such encounters. The videos can be both instructive and entertaining.
These videos - usually obtained from police body cams, sometimes bystanders' smartphone videos or even the youtube poster's own video camera - typically depict long, drawn out, often angry and threatening arguments between the "suspect" and the police officer(s). Not surprisingly, the vast majority of these videos involve whites. Blacks do not enjoy the luxury of arguing with cops during traffic stops. If they do, they are either violently dragged out from their vehicles and beaten down by the cops, or gunned down.

(65,035 posts)I was just confused. Then, I found out there actually is a condition of melatonin deficiency.

(11,738 posts)Understanding that the poster mistakenly put melatonin in for melanin, and that it is not part of the man's defense (that I know of), Yes, melatonin deficiency is actually a thing.

Daunte Wright gets back in his car, tries to flee, and gets shot dead.
This a-hole gets in his truck, beats the cop with a hammer, and drags him with his car and then gets arrested. Don't tell me: he had a bad day.

(8,264 posts)The thing is - the cop-assaulting white guy with a hammer? Hes an excellent example of inconsistent law enforcement (aka: breathing while black). DUers are exceeding your expectations, imho.

(11,738 posts)White people both anecdotally and in data, typically have less dangerous interactions with police. Sure you can argue that some people express it as a "free pass", though I have not seen that stated. The man was arrested for the alleged crime of batter against the customer, and battery on police and resisting arrest, which are appropriate. The difference is that he is alive and well, while many Black men are severely injured or killed in encounters that are similar or even less confrontational than what this man did.
What do you expect from DUers? Not to express any concern or reaction? Back police? Something else?

(9,118 posts)I was talked out of it by a long haired hippie dude. Surely these incidents help to draft more racists in to the police forces. Who among would choose policing as a profession?

(10,177 posts)I responded to a classified ad in the Miami Herald for a temporary position at the MPD, doing some kind of legal research. I was interviewed by a police lieutenant who spent the entire time trying to convince me I should become a cop. I suppose the guy thought I'd make a decent cop.
At the time, Miami was awash in drugs, teeming with corruption, with city officials taking payoffs and most cops embroiled in just about every form of criminality imaginable. At some point during the interview, probably imagining myself as the next Sonny Crockett or Rico Tubbs tearing around the city in a Ferrari, the prospect of becoming a cop seemed so absurd I started laughing and couldn't stop. I never took either job.

Based on the above scenario I would be inclined to use excessive force against the guy. But then again it would be to prevent injury to myself.
