India's COVID-19 situation is raging out of control with 200,000 cases in a single day

The worsening outbreak slammed Maharashtra, Gujarat and New Delhi and has overwhelmed hospitals.
Both Maharashtra, home to financial capital Mumbai, and New Delhi have put lockdown restrictions in place.
India on Thursday reported more than 200,000 new coronavirus cases in a single day as the country battles a severe second wave of infections.
The country recorded 200,739 new cases in 24 hours taking its total past 14 million, becoming only the second country after the U.S. to reach such a high single-day toll. Its the seventh daily record increase in cases over the last eight days in India.

India reported 1,038 new deaths Thursday and has recorded more than 173,000 total COVID-19 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University data. India ranks fourth in deaths after the U.S., Brazil and Mexico.
