'Not afraid to shoot': Migration raises tension in Texas border town

DEL RIO, Texas (Reuters) - Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez is worried.

More migrants are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border near Del Rio, Texas than Martinez recalls in his 13 years as Val Verde County Sheriff. They wade across the Rio Grande river and into residents’ yards.

But it is members of his own community that have Martinez most concerned.

Last month, he said, a resident fired his gun to scare a group of migrants walking on the outskirts of town; nearby schools were locked down in response. He said unfounded accusations have spread on social media blaming migrants for crimes like break-ins. And at a recent community meeting, Martinez said, a resident asked him if she could use “deadly force” to stop migrants who step onto her land.

"a resident asked him if she could use “deadly force” to stop migrants who step onto her land."

Is it ok if I shoot brown people?
What could possibly go wrong with fearful people tuned into christo fascist fox right wing propaganda who are no longer in the minority and pissed off because they backed a loser and were duped by his election fraud lies. Never mind that an immigrant isn't likely to want to stick around and hang out at that woman's house.

Never mind that we're all immigrants, except the Native Americans. Never mind that the crisis was ginned up by GOP talking points that Biden was throwing the border open and taking all comers.

Yes, it's trespassing. But it is not a crime to immigrate. It is not a crime to seek asylum. It is not a crime to enter the US without documentation. It's a misdemeanor. Never mind that the bulk of immigrants arrive on visitor visas and over stay. Never mind that the Atlanta spa shooting exposed an Asian trafficking problem and undocumented immigrants in teh massage parlor industry.

Jordan isn't interested in solving problems or working toward compromise. He isn't debating in good faith--he's bullying and browbeating and demonstrating he hasn't got a clue to be divisive.
