(17,912 posts)Should hook up with the Quaker book club. They do all the good parts and skip the crap.

(17,652 posts)Dear DU
I agree completely that the hypocrisy of the far right is egregious, harmful and wrong.
Please understand that there are Christian churches that work hard to feed, house and comfort others, and build the beloved community. Those folks are mostly liberal Democrats and some of us are here.
The comments deriding Christians are unhelpful. We are doing the work. The church is a way to to do the work not alone but with our community.
Thanks for considering this. Aloha.

(4,552 posts)The problem is they keep changing the parts of the book that they want to obey.
Just for example purposes I will offer this American problem.
Christ did not ask us to help the poor.
He demanded we help the poor.
He said nothing about judging the poor.
He was real clear about who would do the judging.
So why is there so much hunger in America? If we are a Christian nation we should feed the hungry.
Me thinks the religion of Capitalism is in the way. That is a different book altogether.

(4,392 posts)glyphosated edibles, refined sugars, and excess salt, and an assortment of chemically synthesized preservatives, colors, flavors, and texture enhancements - transgenerational, DNA expression changing obesity is a global epidemic - perhaps a symptom of the embedded discriminations of the selfish, lopsided sharing inherent in the wealth gaps the world over? Even the precious 1% have to tempt (fundraise) to provide the means where economies fail "equality" rather that cough up their excesses in government taxes!

UNIONS need to be supported. I worked 35 years in union shops. I am in a very good position financially.

(1,850 posts)We Jews read the Torah (the 5 books of Moses) in a scheduled order every year.
Last week we all read Shemini, which is Torah Portion: Leviticus 9:1-11:47.
During our reading and study we discuss different aspects from year to year.
One thing that has always informed and impressed me during this process is that WE change from year to year even though the text does not; how one understands or interprets the portion this year is different from prior or future years. That's the beauty of our "book club" because we're serious about it.
The Christians don't do this, and have a much larger selection of bible to get through.
So I wouldn't even call them a book club. A fan club, perhaps.
Your post did make me laugh and certainly has a large degree of truth, but I needed to give a serious answer too.

(4,392 posts)Not judging...there's always a duality of what's excessively good or excessively bad to consider. I'm just supposing you are a "responsible" user/owner of same that can afford the consequences if...oops! Life just got a little too exciting?

That's a good one, Duncanpup and they have many versions to choose from that keeps them in mass confusion. They're focusing on the King Donald version at this time.
