On Monday, Knoxville Police Department shot and killed 17 Anthony Thompson Jr. News of this shooting hit national media and was presented as if Ant was a school shooter who shot a cop before another officer bravely returned fire. National media then stopped talking about it.



Residents of Knoxville heard another story from another teen who was inside that bathroom though. He claimed there was a scuffle between Ant and the officer. The officer went to draw his gun and shot himself in the hip. The next day, TBI released this information.

After years of begging the city to put body cams on KPD officers, they finally got them two weeks ago. The city signed a $5 million contract to put a body cam on every uniformed officer. Residents requested the footage, as well as Mayor Kincannon. The DA, Charme Allen, refuses.

This was reported first as a multiple-injury shooting. Then as a shootout between the student and police. Then as an 'officer involved' shooting without description. And now we find the student was in the restroom with no weapon and was shot dead by a cop who shot himself too?

Interesting (and commendable?) that the officers involved are calling for release of body cam footage. (although that really isn't their call -- but still step in the right direction?)
