in a couple of hours. I am asking those who have had their second Moderna shot what it was like afterwards. Thanks

(17,431 posts)Minor injection site pain
I felt tired and out of sorts the next day.
Reactions have varied widely among people I know.

(1,529 posts)than after the first one. Don't take medicine before the shot. I read that moving and exercising your arm afterwards helps. The shot itself didn't hurt.

(32 posts)I was expecting some kind of side effect in the 8-12 hr window.
Nope, 20 hours later I started getting joint aches which progressed to a fever of 999-100.
Lasted about 12 hours. I woke up at 2am starved to death and knew it was over.
Took Tylenol for the fever.

(4,919 posts)... Feels like a building dropped on me. I expected side effects but not as bad as I'm experiencing...
I had COVID in May 2020 and the vaccine side effects feel *almost* the same as actual COVID body aches, chills, headache, dizziness, nausea. Had no side effects after the first shot.
Best wishes.

(14,853 posts)I received my 2nd dose of Moderna almost 24 hours ago, and my only symptom seems to be a sore arm.

(14,853 posts)After 24 hours, I feel a bit light-headed and my temp is now 101 F.
I would've never suspected the temp increase. Don't feel hot, don't have chills, etc. I just started feeling light-headed.

(8,168 posts)I did have other effects like chills, elevated pulse rate, headache, nausea and generally annoyed at 2-5AM cuz I couldn't sleep. Each person is different and as another thread notes, it varies based on age and other things that may effect our immune response. Believe it or not, I'm actually thankful that I got a severe response, makes me more confident that my body has created an abundance of defensive cells to combat this nasty virus.

I dozed off on my couch a few hours ago, and I already feel better. Temp has dropped to about 100 F too.
I didn't think that I'd care, but I'm also relieved to have symptoms beyond a sore arm this time. It indeed feels like confirmation that it stimulated the immune system!
Thanks for sharing your experience!

(28,858 posts)Keep it but don't laminate it. Also, it's wise to take
a picture of it and keep it in your phone.
I have a sore arm. I try to move it around a lot
periodically. That does seem to help some.
That's it for me.

(3,335 posts)Arm hurt a lot, massive headache, body aches, felt like a had the flu. Finally gave in and took Advil 15 hours in. Woke up in a pile of sweat and feel better today.
Happy vaccination day! Its well worth the side effects.

(12,503 posts)At 74, I sometimes wonder if I got the Covid vaccine or a placebo, because other than the slight pain in the arm at the injection site for a day, I have had zero side effects from the vaccine. No fever. No anything.

(11,451 posts)With arm pain, fever, chills, body aches but would do again.
So just have Tylenol ready and maybe some popsicles and watch some long movies.
Everyone was different in my family some had no reaction, some just arm pan, some like me.
Best thing you can do is relax your muscles in your arm during shot. Tensing up can cause arm pain.

(4,510 posts)Right knee was terribly painful starting 24 hours after the shot and then was gone 24 hours later.
Shoulder pain for 2.5 weeks. Same as after the first shot, but much more intense.
No other symptoms. No fever, no chills, no headaches, no tiredness.

(145,130 posts)I ran a slight fever the day after but was fine the next day. My youngest ran a decent fever that we took care of with alternative NSAIDs and tylenole and a cold bath. She was fine the next day. There is a decent chance that my youngest may have picked a mild case of COVID while being an election judge for the Nov. election. She lost most of sense of taste and ran a fever for a week. Her COVID test came back negative. There is good authority that persons who had COVID tend to have stronger reactions to the vaccines

(44,973 posts)About 8 hours later, my arm started to hurt. The next day, I had a low grade fever and didn't feel very well. My arm was hurting too.
But the day after that, it was pretty much back to normal. So I had enough of a reaction to know I was making antibodies but nothing too bad.

(3 posts)Had my second Moderna shot twelve hours ago, so far just some pain and tenderness at the injection site. Pretty much what I had after number one, hopefully no problems over the weekend.
