(58,785 posts)and desperate, we have to stabilize this nation or else (!), and anxiety/rage over this issue is being used to fuel an overthrow of our government.
And after that would come concentration/deportation (one hopes!) camps in the desert for hundreds of thousands of immigrants and others. Trump et al were already planning them when stopped. God knows how many would die in them, but no one should have any illusions that their conditions would be anything approaching humane.

(29,322 posts)Why should I care what they want? I also can't commit any felonies either or my VA benefits will be reduced.
If you want to stabilize this nation pass a voting rights bill. Arizona has 23 voter suppression bills all sponsored by the GOP and that is actually my top my concern right now. I stayed home and voted for Biden and Democrats down ballot so I'm not interested in their concerns.
I have a lot of sympathy for Democratic voters in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin because Republicans didn't want their vote to count. The fact that RW militias stormed the Capitol while Republicans objected to Arizona's electoral votes fueled a lot of anxiety and rage in me but I'm just an Arizona voter that would like my vote to count.

(4,381 posts)and lawless GQP, et al, that arrived here as the twinkles/dreams of the seekers and doers of a better life, and now don't promote "liberty and justice for all" in favor of their ever-growing personal portfolios. BUSTED! We can do a lot better at that when there's a longer vision for making it so. May the force be with you, Joe!

(15,705 posts)But were already the 3rd most populated country in the World. How much can our land take in? WE do need a study on various water, housing, electric, ect. 340 million in the country. Climate change is more difficult to control with more population. If not for that, we could have a billion and I wouldnt care.

(58,785 posts)It's been awhile, but the professor of an urban studies class I once took at UCLA pointed out that, as far as space goes, the entire population of the U.S. then could be comfortably concentrated on both coasts. It's not that much different now, though.
We're by far the wealthiest nation on the planet, and we're also one of the top drivers of global warming. Everything we've been doing we can do much better, be better off ourselves, and cause future generations to shake their heads in wonder at the criminal irresponsibility of our times.

(58,785 posts)but just think, how LIKELY is it that 10 (!) other nations are wealthier than the planet's only current superpower and still the planet's leader in scientific and technological innovation, though in that many others are catching up fast.
It's no accident, btw, that in spite of Trump/Repub's emptying the national treasury and trying to hold back response to the pandemic, we nevertheless developed 3 of the worlds best vaccines (German company codeveloper on one; more in development); are able to provide government paid medical care for Covid patients, issue stimulus checks by the hundreds of millions; and will soon have everyone (in a nation of over 325 million) who consents vaccinated.
