(34,747 posts)he normalized it. Yep, these loonies were with us all along. He made it okay for them to crawl out from under their rocks and run roughshod over the country.

(4,064 posts)The radicalization is more effective when you hear the conspiracies and lies from your ranting radio host and your cable hosts, plus a few RW members of Congress thrown in for the appearance of respectability.

that was "obstructing visibility" to drive safely.

(20,200 posts)Makes a whole lot of sense, doesn't it? I'm sure the police, even if they did pull her over, would just give her a verbal warning and wish her a nice day. There certainly are two Americas.

(20,630 posts)I shouldn't because it's really her right to do that and none of my business, but I would have to question her judge of character and general mental health. I wouldn't be able to hold back.

It is, of course, her right to express her ignorant, hate-filled opinions. What people like her do not understand is that it is my right to tell them that I think they are completely insane.

It kind of reminds me of a group which uses that place and rendomly executes and average of about 1.25 people every day.

(6,355 posts)Biden could give every rural Trumper a million dollars and Fox will contort and convince the mindless hoard that it was a sinister thing to do aimed at ultimately turning them into baby-killing, communist Antifaists. As long as Fox is free to spread disinformation and hateful propaganda we Dems will continue to out vote Rs and continue to lose ground due to the structural inequities of the electoral map and gerrymandering. We must get rid of the filibuster and time is not on our side. Getting rid of the filibuster and then immediately making DC a State and adding SCOTUS seats is our only hope. Lets face it, I am in favor of HR1 but what good is it when SCOTUS says, like they did in 2020 to our advantage, that the Constitution grants individual States the right to determine how elections are conducted and neutralizes HR1. SCOTUS is poised to set our country back to pre-industrial days eliminating workers rights and individual freedoms. Short of these drastic changes our only other hope is to pick up seats in the Senate which again will be difficult due to the voter suppression laws red States are currently running to pass. And does anyone really think if the roles were reversed, how fast would McConnell het rid of the filibuster to enact legislation that would prevent Blue States from every gaining power again regardless of how many millions of votes we win elections by. We won the first round in 2020 but can we keep our gains and add to them in 2022. We need a Stacey Abrams swing State working everyday to register people to vote and counter republican efforts to suppress democratic voter turnout. Joe has started out great but I am very worried about the future.

(89,289 posts)And the equal time provisions.
Thats yet another lovely parting gift of Ronald Reagan and his slickly-packaged destructive and infernal policies of nonstop greed and self-interest.
He started the hell of deregulated broadcasting.
Something else needs to be reimposed, too: the OWNERSHIP RESTRICTIONS!!!
Used to be any would-be owner, either a private citizen OR corporate entity, had to conform to a very simple basic rule: you can own THREE broadcast media properties in any one market. In any combination. It usually worked out to one TV station, one AM station, and one FM station, although there were many combinations. That would have to be modified a little bit to re ignite the nature of evolving media, but the same overriding ilicy would still hold.
And no, you would NOT have the freedom to run the table. To own it all. To buy up every station of its kind and create one big funnel of one-sided worldview.
