(9,895 posts)Fame is not a reason to admire anyone. I am willing to bet about 1/2 or more of those people just might believe he IS Jesus...

From sad experience, I've long preferred not to know who the people behind the performances are. I tune in for the performances, and that's all I want to see, not some silly dickhead pretending to be what he can't really understand, respect or admire.

(7,281 posts)and twisted glorification of the persecuted martyr, promoting cult fetish.
That was my recollection from first impressions of the trailer. I never watched it. But I soon became aware of his extremist/cult views at the time, and vowed never to support him by viewing any film of him in the future.
But I believe I had unknowingly recently viewed a film I liked a lot with him as a "supporting actor" or such. It must have been on netflix or prime. can't recall the title or even what it was about at the moment despite the fact it wasn't that long ago.
But I do recall he was good in it.
I will continue to avoid any film he directs, or performs in the future. The last one was by accident. And I remember I nearly didn't recognize him.
Wasn't aware of the anti-semitism in that film or his life, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.

(16,389 posts)The "sadomasochistic indulgence" and "twisted glorification of the persecuted martyr" aspects you so eloquently describe were a huge, gigantic, major turnoff to me, and I made a point of not going anywhere near it.
I feel like I've seen Caviezel in something but didn't realize it at the time, and now I can't remember what it was.

(7,281 posts)I feel like it was made around the time Shock 'n Awe was in full "State of Play", don't remember if it was before or after Dumbya's re-election campaign.. but I was just fed up to the gills with the punditry class frothing Evangelicals as the "mainstream" of the "American Electorate". and majority of the population (which I felt was complete BS), directly implying that the Democratic Party had better find religion and give succor to their leaders.
And who can forget how the GOP convention created a backdrop on the convention stage, a huge white cross designed to make Bush seem like the second coming. Anointed by God.
Again, I don't recall exactly the year, but my tolerance for the Religious Cult figures had hit an all time below-Zero-Tolerance factor, and not inclined to support or give an ounce of charitable perspective, forgiving thoughts in their behalf.
That hasn't changed. If anything, my views have only been re-confirmed over and over again, and they're all far worse than I gave them credit for in the past. Mel Gibson and comrades can go eff themselves as they join forces with the Q Nutters they always were, as well as their White Supremacists Grand Wizards of every one of those groups.

(66,328 posts)I couldn't watch a thing Jim Caviezel was in, not because he's a right-wing loon, but because he's the most boring actor on the planet.
I remember reading years after I saw the movie that Caviezel had a major role in "The Thin Red Line". Surprised the shit out of me. I can't remember a nanosecond of his appearance in the film. He was outshone by a battalion of far better actors.
As a native Northwesterner, his one positive achievement is pronouncing "Puyallup" correctly on TV, in one of his "POI" episodes.

(6,008 posts)I really do like that show, but he's not particularly good in it. He's not terrible, but he could be replaced by any number of other actors who would have done a just as good, if not better job.

(29,322 posts)The irony of those episodes is a real life Cicada puzzle may have led to the creation of the Q stuff rather than an evil supercomputer. I guess the person that solved a real life cicada puzzle came into contact with others and created the Q stuff.

(12,422 posts)I first saw him in an otherwise terrific movie called Frequency. I remember thinking at the time that it was too bad they couldn't find a likeable actor to play his role. He was like a cipher among the other good actors. I am not at all surprised that he's a nutcase.

(9,988 posts)I looked him up on Wikipedia and he hasn't been in anything good since POI - and he's been in a lot of shit like Infidel, which was executive produced by Dinesh D'Souza of all people.
I don't think actors should be blacklisted for their political views even if I disagree with them, but I've never heard of a QAnon believer and tradcath nutjob who wasn't a pain in the ass to work with and a raging bigot on all sorts of fronts (and they never hide it as well as they think they do).
