I saw the tweet below and I did not know what it was about. But I did find an article about the Church.
I do not know why the police in riot gear are around the Church.
There's a church in Brooklyn Center that was harboring people hurt by police violence during the #DaunteWright protests, and this was how the cops responded.
I dont even know where to start... this is a tax payer funded fascist nightmare. Literally nothing has changed!

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (WCCO) A church in Brooklyn Center is hoping to be a place for the community to find peace despite the chaos outside.
For the fifth night in a row, Kathy Winn and others from her church are preparing to welcome whoever walks in their doors.
Its not about sitting in a church pew, its being out in the neighborhood and showing your love for people, Winn said.
Just around the corner from the Brooklyn Center Police Department, Lutheran Church of the Master found itself at the epicenter of the calls for justice for Daunte Wright.
Were praying for everyone and were praying for just solutions and peace and this is our little way of showing our love, Winn said.
And theyre doing that by putting out food and water and letting people use the restroom, take a breath and have a conversation.

(12,687 posts)They see themselves as the last roman centurion legion holding back the Vandals and Goths. They don't serve their community, they serve the Empire -their Police Unions and the "movers and shakers". And any dissent in their ranks is delt with harshly, so the "bad apples" tend to run their ranks.
Police in the US increasingly are not Andy Griffith or Barney Miller, trying to keep their communities safe and reasonably law abiding. Their only job to protect valuable property, collect revenue, and act as ad-hoc judges of "lesser" people within their jurisdiction whenever there's a need to hammer dissent down.
We need to start looking at the European model of community policing if we are going to stop expecting our police to be shock troops for "The Law".

(26,045 posts)...or we'll be accused of wanting to "defund the police," and lose to Republicans who use that claim, just as happened last year.
The sad fact is that, at the moment, while many of us are outraged by police violence (particularly against BIPOC), the majority of Americans (particularly whites) regard it as regrettable "collateral damage" worth paying in exchange for keeping their families and belongings safe. Not that they aren't "bothered" by incidents like the deaths of George Floyd and Duante Wright but, if it's a choce between that and themselves being at risk, they'll gladly sacrifice ten George Floyds every day.

(21,724 posts)the message out about what is happening. Change the perceptions of the majority to make them see that injustice for some is injustice for all.
When we let the fascists get away with targeting some people, we pave the way for them to do it to everyone. Make people see the larger picture and how it hurts them in the end. Self interest motivates people more than principles. So show society at large how and why this matters to them, too.

Over 75 Minnesota State Troopers form a blockade around a Brooklyn Center church at dusk. With helmets and batons at the ready they surround the building at least two layers deep, preventing any access to sanctuary.

(1,364 posts)Fire all the police officers involved!! They are "daring" the young black Mayor. The Mayor needs to show the fascists who is in charge. This is Minnesota, the overwhelming of the population hates....and I mean hates racism and they hate the police. Mayor.... Minnesota has your back!

(21,724 posts)my faith in humanity if other churches in the area called upon their members to show up at this site to show solidarity with the people trapped inside. Show the fascist cops and the religious right that they do not own the country or religion.
With a little creativity, some groups could distract these fascist cops to let medics and other people inside the church.
This situation just screams out for some good trouble.
