(21,719 posts)But my county map shows only about 21% vaccinated. However, I've been watching Covid death statistics here, and there hasn't been a death in three weeks. That is a welcome change from four or five a week. I suspect from the lackadaisical reaction to the pandemic here that a lot of people have already been infected.

(26,721 posts)We appear to be about one month behind the UK in terms of vaccinations... and their positive tests have fallen from a peak of around 65,000 infections in a day to the current 2,500 or so... and deaths have declined from a peak over 1500/day to two or three dozen people per day currently.
They do appear to be debating whether they've reached herd immunity. Perhaps they're optimistic, but they're certainly close. We aren't "a very long way" behind them.
Particularly if you consider that a much higher percentage of those most at risk have been fully vaccinated.
On edit - Israel is down to single-digit daily deaths and appear to be about two months ahead of us.

(25,816 posts)I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the UK and Israel don't have 30 percent or so of their population who don't plan to get the shots.

(4,514 posts)I just read in our local paper this morning OK is dead last in the number given. I've had both, hubby has had one. He works for a university and is one of the few in his department who took it. The talk in the break room is about DNA mutations, micro chips and aborted fetal tissue. A suburb is having a mask burning event tonight
