Pro-Trump website TheDonaldconfirms detailed plans to storm Capitol and kill members of Congress
Apr 16, 2021 6:00pm EDT by Dartagnan, Community
If there were any lingering doubts as to the violent intentions and motives of those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, those doubts may now be put to rest. From minute details, such as the most effective type of zip ties to restrain elected officials to the most effective methods of killing police officers, the rioters left a chilling and irrefutable electronic trail on a website dedicated to overturning the 2020 election on Donald Trumps behalf. Prior to Jan. 6, that website, TheDonald.win, had generated over 1 million visits per day.
A research group called Advance Democracy, formed by former FBI analyst and Senate investigator Daniel Jones, collected thousands of messages posted by pseudonymous users of the now-defunct website in the days leading up to the insurrection. The posts were distilled into a report and provided to The Washington Post. Jones group had previously focused on the online effort to mobilize the riot, and it soon became evident that this particular website served as one of the rioters primary organizational hubs.
As reported by the Posts Craig Timberg:
The website, TheDonald, played a far more central role in the January 6th Capitol insurrection than was previously known, he said. There are thousands of posts with tens of thousands of comments detailing plans to travel to Washington and engage in violence against the U.S. Capitol. The ultimate end goal of this violence was, on behalf of Trump, disrupt the Congress and overturn the presidential election.
Because the posters on this site used pseudonyms, Advance Democracy could not identify them; the logical assumption is that the website and its contents are now being analyzed by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to track the former users through more forensic means. As the Post explains, the website itself grew out of a Reddit forum that served for some time as a safe space for racists and conspiracy theorists. Eventually, chafing at Reddits moderation rules, the forum became a standalone site, with its web address owned by an Army Veteran named Jody Williams. Williams disbanded the site after the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.
The Post article cites a treasure trove of intensely violent comments and discussions on the site in the weeks leading up to the Jan. 6 assault. Many of those comments clearly go well beyond the aspirational fever dreams of keyboard commandos, and involve meticulous and well-coordinated plans, including shared diagrams of the tunnel systems beneath the Capitol complex, discussion of travel and funding resources, and most notably, proposed methods to inflict violence, some of which were then employed by the rioters.

(9,304 posts)are too slow for most people (Americans, yes, but not only Americans.) That's why "due process" had to be written into the Constitution.
And, of course, so is the right to a speedy trial - which motivates justice workers not to arrest until they have all the evidence needed to convict. The defense can spin it out basically as long as they want, but the prosecution can't. They have to be ready.

(8,006 posts)Bad as it was, they accompanied no abductions performed no executions and the ones perhaps serious about doing such treason are being locked up one by one with more to come. Even a seriously trained and talented go team would have been hindered by the thousands of unorganized nutcases wandering about aimlessly and constantly in the way.
Bet Trump and Co thought more would have been accomplished after doing all they could to hinder Leos who might stop it so they had plenty of time before there was ever any serious threat to their mission.
Those losers failed in their attempt big time and after a short delay, Congress accompanied their mission to certify the count and the election.

(7,604 posts)If the counterrevolutionaries had enough strength and tactical skill to hold on to a portion of the Capitol building, they would have brought in the weaponry that was stored outside of the Capitol grounds. That was the plan.
They also just missed, by a whisker, physically confronting the USSS who were protecting Pence and possibly others. If those confrontations had actually happened and there were attempts to capture Pence and others, the Secret Service would have opened fire and the casualty number would have climbed significantly. And the Secret Service would have prevailed. They knew that "this was not a drill."
We should remember that planned physical violence, like war, ALWAYS has the risk of falling into chaos. War is always chaotic. And the storming of the Capitol by paramilitaries was an unofficial act of war. Quite often strategic and tactical plans do NOT go according to design. Too many variables are always at play.
I've had plenty of doubts that the justice system will respond by holding ALL participants accountable, and I share with some of the posters the impatience of a slow process that seemingly drags on forever. I've surmised that there may even be a reluctance by a network of prosecutors to indict and arrest Trump and several members of Congress due to a fear of a wider social uprising in defense of Trump's refusal to acknowledge his electoral loss. Because of the deliberate and thorough investigative process that must be followed in order to secure air-tight cases that would lead to convictions, our impatience can lead to other hypotheses about power dynamics and conspiracies. Let's hold on and monitor the wheels of justice, and presume faith in the system as a guardian against insurrection. It just might work.

(8,006 posts)What is maddening is that every move made must take The Trump Factor into account. What will his precious fans think and how will they react? How will that orange idiot react? Worse, if that were even possible, are we going to be able to somehow seat a jury that doesnt have at least one Trumpster on it eager to insure there is no conviction no matter the
Amount and quality of Evidence presented or the seriousness of the offense.

(21,836 posts)And my idea of just punishment for this collection of human trash goes way beyond what's legal in this country, but......
Beyond the obvious rioting, assaults of capital police, vandalism and murder of one officer, the prosecution has to be rock solid, because this is far deeper than many imagine. So it must be well investigated, well documented and well proved. And that's not because they're all white. That's because of the nature of the crimes and who was involved.
Think about it. This isn't about a few yokels from fly over country. This probably involves sitting members of Congress, high level administration officials and a former president. And if we don't do this right, it will appear to be political in nature, and we don't lock people up simply for having different political beliefs, no matter how vile or undemocratic.
The collusion, the planning and all who were involved...all of them...must be investigated the right way and solid evidence collected and presented to grand juries. There's no room for even minor fuck ups here and that takes time. Just because you don't see anything splashed across the news on a daily basis, don't think nothings happening. Lots and lots of things are happening that we are not privy to...yet.

(21,836 posts)this time. One of Biden's first public statements after he won was zero interference with Justice. That was before Jan 6, but I don't believe it was an off the cuff remark either. Justice goes where the evidence goes and if that means people go to jail, then people go to jail. No interference from the White House.
