Florida nurse accused of threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris

April 17, 2021, 2:53 PM EDT
By Nicole Acevedo
A Miami-area woman was charged in federal court with making threats to kill Vice President Kamala Harris in a series of videos she sent to her husband in prison, authorities said.

Niviane Petit Phelps, 39, sent five 30-second videos and two photographs to her husband back in February through a service known as "JPay," which is used to share media between incarcerated and non-incarcerated individuals, according to a Secret Service complaint.

"The videos generally depict Phelps complaining and speaking angrily to the camera about her hatred for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, among others," authorities said. "However, in those videos, Phelps also made statements about killing Vice President Harris."

In one video from Feb. 13, Phelps said that Harris was "going to die" after "someone paid me $53,000 just to f--- you up," according to the complaint. In another from Feb. 14, Phelps claimed she was going to a gun range "until you f------ leave the chair," officials said. And in a video from Feb. 18, she said Harris would die in 50 days, according to the complaint.

Authorities said a photo from Feb. 20 showed Phelps at a shooting range smiling while holding a pistol next to a target containing bullet holes. Two days later, she applied for a concealed weapons permit, according to the complaint. A second photo sent to Phelps' husband depicted a "juvenile male, later determined to be Phelps' son, holding a pistol and a target," authorities said.

During an interview with investigators, Phelps claimed she believes Harris "is not actually 'Black,'" according to the complaint. Harris is the first Black American, the first South Asian American and the first woman elected vice president in U.S. history. Phelps is also Black.

Phelps later told investigators that at the time she was angry about Harris becoming vice president but was "over it now," according to the complaint. She was arrested following the investigation.

Phelps, a longtime nurse at the Jackson Memorial Medical Center, was "suspended without pay while we process her employment termination," her employer said in a statement, NBC Miami reported.

Maybe Guadeloupe or Martinique. Saint Martin or Saint Barthélemy (St Barts) as more remote possibilities.

St Croix, St Kitts, St Vincent and the Grenadines, or the Turks and Caicos.

Finally a current French territory, French Guiana.

But my dosh is on Haiti.

What the British and French did to the Caribs in St Kitts must never be forgotten.

is from southern India and pretty dark, but that's not African heritage. Whatever. Bigots and crazies always manufacture justifications for their whatever, and this one's probably both.

but the truth is that he would not be described as 'black'. Here in JA don would have been called a brown man or a red man. - just saying. Indeed someone who consider him/herself pure African in Jamaican is often angry when mixed folks claim to be black. That is why I suspect she has Caribbean roots -

the more unfortunate in them. Thanks for the insight. But of course the Caribbean must have its racist conservatives like every other place on earth, so that could underlie her vicious attitude.

Isn't there also a white relative Harris and her father don't like to own a few generations back? A dynamic powerhouse of a man in his evil white slave owner way, though.

It only becomes racist when one has the power to deprive the other of equality - economically, socially or politically.
Sometimes I am embarrassed at the way in which some folks describe others by skin color or ethnicity.

Those guys, frustrated and angry at change they can't stop, gathering to "let it out" in the back of the back yard after their second beer, while others remain decent among everyone else under the lights.

To me attitude is everything in itself. You're either a good hearted person of good will toward man, or something else. And ability to make good and bad attitudes felt by others is a detail.

Btw, her behavior suggests this woman had hit what experts in terrorism apparently call the "wall of frustration" where they're too extreme for others to agree or be influenced by them, "forcing" them to take action on their own that can't be ignored, or at least consider it.

Many of them hold elected office so that makes it even worse.
