Friday our son (48) visited for the first time in 18 months. Our daughter (53) drove with him. She visited in the driveway in October bringing our grandson who was on leave from the Navy and the oldest who lives in Virginia. In May she brought a cooler with ten ready to bake dinners and our third grandson. And the fourth grandson visited on his way to college in September. We were fully vaccinated on April 13, having had our 2nd Pfizer shot March 30. They live 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours away respectively. We had an outdoor visit since neither has been vaccinated. I was overwhelmed by my reaction upon being able to hug them, they wore masks. I just held them and didnt want to let go. My husband had a picnic table set up complete with tablecloth and they brought pizza. We were happy beyond words. The visit lasted 3 hours and we had a group photo and I wore my mask for it. I realize last year was difficult for all of us, and so far weve held together. I was diagnosed with breast cancer March 20, 2020 and had successful surgery May 28, the day before our 48th wedding anniversary. My family was my support group and I didnt go to any stores until Tuesday. Who knew grocery shopping could be such a joy? Were still very careful only shopping in the early morning and not going in if a store is too crowded. Its a different way of life and adjustments have to be made. Our son decided to get the vaccine because then he could stay the weekend and help my husband with the yard work. Our daughter is an anti vaxxer and is most at risk for COVID as she works outside the home, leads church worship, holds painting classes and teaches voice lessons. I hope she thinks about it. We all have our stories about the last year and how we have been affected. This is mine.

(32,264 posts)I hope your daughter changes her mind about getting the shot. Until then, stay safe and stay healthy.
I'm looking forward to spending next weekend with my youngest son now that we are both fully vaccinated. I haven't seen any family members face to face in over 6 months. It will feel like winning the lottery.

(89,308 posts)We had one of those over Easter weekend. Everybody already vaccinated including us. First time we hugged anybody in more than a year! Felt great!

(37,550 posts)...both got their first shots, Pfizer both; my wife and I are well past two Modernas.
Sounds like a drink...two Modernas.
I'm still being careful; masks sanitizer and all, but I feel liberated as well.

(32,806 posts)Thanks for sharing your lovely story. I'm so happy you are able to gather with your family. In a time when it seems everything is falling apart we need to remember that eventually, we can happily come together again.
I hope you will take time to visit the North Carolina* group. We're an interesting, eclectic bunch and I will look forward to your posts.
Stay encouraged.
