https://religionnews.com/2021/04/15/former-employee-sues-dave-ramseys-company-for-alleged-religious-discrimination-cult-like-atmosphere/Ramsey Solutions is also being sued by a former employee named Caitlin OConnor, who claims she was fired for being pregnant and unmarried. The company had defended her firing, saying she was fired for having premarital sex, which company policy bans. In defending its policies, Ramsey Solutions has also claimed to have fired a total of eight employees since 2016 for premarital sex.
News of the OConnor lawsuit led Inc. magazine to drop the company from its 2020 Best Workplaces list.
Ramsey personality and author Chris Hogan recently resigned from the company for violating undisclosed Ramsey Solutions policies. Leaders at Ramsey had long backed Hogan, despite concerns about his conduct.

Hogan, however, had admitted to having several affairs, including one with a fellow Ramsey employee, during his divorce proceedings without apparent discipline from company leadership.
Instead, after company officials became aware of Hogans infidelity in 2018, just before the launch of Everyday Millionaires, the company put together a restoration plan that would allow Hogans book tour to go forward. Parts of that plan included mandatory counseling for Hogan and his then-spouse, Melissa, and a request that the counselor and the couples pastor send regular reports to Ramsey and other company leaders.
After Melissa Hogan objected to that plan and the couple separated, Ramsey told employees that the couple was going through a really nasty divorce and accused Melissa Hogan of making angry and untrue allegations about her then-husband.

(5,502 posts)His message should be to be to live slightly below what you can afford. If you can afford a $150k house, maybe buy a $100k house. Same with cars. Low mileage used cars are generally better deals than new cars. I like the idea of having an emergency fund. Etc.
If no one had debt, I'm not sure we'd have much of an economy.

Yeah, his followers in Kentucky can buy their $150K house with cash. doesn't work in the California market.

(4,222 posts)to cut costs by buying a beater car with lots of miles to save money. So how often does a not-gently used car break down with expensive repairs. Doesnt make sense.
Lots of churches bought into his debt reduction books. Of course tithing was a big part of that. Plus it brought lots of book sales from the churches. Better living thru grifting.

(7,447 posts)I wanted a car. I was a 23 year old E4 with no car, and that puts a crimp in your dating life.
Unfortunately, one of the Sergeants took me down to a lemon lot, and got me to buy a piece of crap. (He got a break on his own car to get me suckered in).
I think the car cost something like 4500 bucks. It wasn't even THAT old, an 87 I was buying in 93 but it was a piece of crap.
Within a year the engine needed replacing, and by the time it died for the last time in 2002, I would guess I probably paid 20K in repairs, for sure over 10K. I'd have been better off buying a new, or slightly used car. I would have saved more money ultimately.
A beaten car with lots of miles is bad advice.

(8,059 posts)into a fund to pay for your next newer, better car after your beater. My husband and I used to laugh at this advice. That "fund" of savings will most likely be used to pay for repairs when your beater doesn't start or leaves you stranded, and you will have less cash and no trade-in value for your next car. We did own old cheapo used cars, but they weren't our primary family vehicles.

(36,953 posts)Do they fire divorced people who have married a second spouse?
Jesus was very specific about divorce.
Most people who have remarried are committing adultery if the divorce did not meet Jesus' criteria.

(489 posts)purchased our 07 in 09, and kept it through till now. not having a car payment for that long is money in your pocket. even a big repair here or there is the equivalent of a monthly payment or 2 on a new vehicle. Hoping to keep it till we need a bigger car with our kids.
