Barrett was appointed to the court in a hurried, politicized and bitter process last year, after the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of progressive values.
Barrett is a strict Catholic and her presence on the 6-3 conservative court has given rightwing campaigners hope it will soon strike down Roe v Wade, the 1973 ruling which established the right to abortion.
An unnamed source who spoke to Politico said Barretts advance was eye-raising. A spokesperson for the court did not comment.

(4,448 posts)that went from Academia to SC justice. Never was a judge in any capacity prior to being a Supreme Court judge.
But she's on our side and is actually quite good. (Kagan)
There's plenty of reason to criticize Barrett. But she actually did come in with more experience than at least one of her peers.

Shadowy right-wing groups buy millions of copies; money is funneled to said SCROTUS justice.
Justice is served, on a silver platter.

(4,448 posts)High profile people write books. It's how they communicate their profile. If it wasn't for book publishing, Obama may have never bene President.
Take a gander at your top 10 list of favorite progressives. Maybe top 50. They all have books.
Honestly books are a much better view into their thinking than just listening to the media tell you what they think,

(12,022 posts)I cant find any reference to it. That big an advance means its probably one of the big 5, but I dont see how her sales are going to justify that advance.

(4,448 posts)For a publisher, this is as safe a bet as it gets.
When you or I write a book, it's sales depends on the ideas in it. Risky unless you are an established author.
When political figures writes a book, there is almost no risk. The party behind the figure will ensure the book will sell out. The book will be bought in bulk from "non-profits" and then handed out at events for free. Or dumped in a landfill.
It's also a way of donating to the politician without going on record.
All the existing Supreme Court justices have sold books. One would have to go back pretty far in history to find one without.
