Just shook them down again and it was easy. Didn't hesitate to offer me a lower rate.
I get so accustomed to having to drag "customer-no-service" agents through their own job, it was a surprise.

(38,958 posts)how low did they go if you don't mind me asking.

(20,682 posts)I told them I don't drive that much anymore, and the sound quality is poor and the selection is repetitive. I don't listen to news that often. It's just not worth $22, and it's not.
Rorey
(8,445 posts)Exactly.
My son got the service for me as a gift, but I quickly took it over because he doesn't need to do a never-ending gift like that. After I realized that the music channels I liked were basically on a loop, I started listening to MSNBC. But $22 was too much for the little I drive. When I called to cancel, they offered me a $5 rate, but it was just going to be music. I said no. If I didn't get msnbc and cnn I didn't want it at all. Miraculously there happened to be a package that included those channels for the same price as the skimpy one that didn't include them. Go figure.
So basically the customers who realize what kind of game they're playing get a satisfactory rate, and those who assume these businesses are honest pay too much.

(8,445 posts)They're not a problem for people like me because I have the time to go through the process, and I do okay as far as using the internet. It sucks for people who don't have the time or know how to go through that process.
Once again, we have to play their game to get their better prices, while others get ripped off.

I'm not paying more that $2.75 a month for their service, including free activation.
They're offering $3.25 now. And the answer is NO.
When you allow it to drop, a couple of months later, you'll get a $5 month offer for the year.

(5 posts)I did it easy as can be. Logged in, did a cancel, and the chat window opened and the person on the other end offered me the low price right away!

(15,220 posts)Ive never paid more than $5 per month.

(8,445 posts)I'm okay with $6, and when the year obligation is up I'll shake them down again.

(5,526 posts)I got tired of the dance. Between the cost and decrease in driving, it just wasn't worth it. They tried to entice me with lower prices but I was so annoyed that I just wanted to be done with it. I might change my mind when they come back at me with a good offer. Especially if it looks like I have road trips in my future.
I hate that they make you call them to quit. I do so much on the internet these days that it is just an imposition to use a phone. Their customer service hours match up to work hours so it is a pain to find time to do it. I just got aggravated with the whole thing.
Rorey
(8,445 posts)It's very irritating to have to actually call them, and it's even aggravating to use chat. It's all a ploy to make people just stick with what they have because it's so much trouble to make changes.
Xfinity plays the same game.
genxlib
(5,526 posts)Because they are clearly using oversees call centers.
So they are purposely making people work in the middle of the night so that they are only open for business hours here. Seems to me like they could easily expand their hours and actually let people on the other side of the world work normal hours and be available to us at odd hours.

And what country do you suppose that script-following agent lives in?
It won't be long before you'll have to do a Turing test to make sure you're talking to a person.
I had never heard of it.

(20,682 posts)Then, when I'm travelling, I like that I can choose the music for my mood or the time of day, and I don't have to find radio stations as I drive. Half the time they sound like crap, as you approach or leave the broadcast area, or drive behind a mountain.
Rorey
(8,445 posts)For me, it's easier to stay alert, rather than listening to music.

(8,445 posts)I'm just not sure now.
I'm going to start taking some little day trips around Colorado soon.
I like the actual driving part, but it's the prospect of staying in a hotel again that is bothering me a little. I didn't like it pre-pandemic, and I think I'm worse now.
Yonnie3
(17,437 posts)I was driving so little because of my retirement and the pandemic, I was listening less than two hours a month.
My latest email from them is offering $4.99 per month, but notes "Subscription required. Fees and taxes apply."
Rorey
(8,445 posts)It sure wasn't worth $10 per hour to listen.

(2,272 posts)Every 5-6 months I threaten to quit, then they offer my introductory rate if $5 per month again.
Just call in two weeks before you automatically regress to full price.
Our car dealership told us to do this when we bought the car. Only the first time did I have to let it lapse for two weeks before they called and asked what it would take to get my business back, then they gave me the $5 rate.

They are offering me $3.25 and $5.00 deals, with the same perks, but I grew to just using a jump drive.
My kids do that and I'm a bit older, but once you get your CDs loaded to a jump drive and create playlists, you won't need Sirius anymore. The thing that annoys me about Sirius is that after a while... it's the same fucking songs over and over.
Even older cars with just an aux-in jack can work from a phone or player. You don't need a USB port.
My kids will stream their playlists, Spotify, or whatever else they've got going. I just have Sirius for only one car out of the five household ones. My one daughter's car's Sirius expired and she's not renewing either. We have 4 Sirius enabled cars and only one has a subscription on it.

(17,863 posts)I kept it up about five years and then abandoned it. Got it free to start with my HHR. I went through a couple of pay cycles before dropping it as well.
I love my Amazon Music though. Well worth the $7/mo. to me when I combine with my Echo. I listen for at least two hours everyday, and I have heard music that I never had the chance before now.
