He knew he was about to die obviously since he reached out to his staff. I have not seen if it has been made public.

A member of the so-called Minnesota Democratic Mafia, he was Hubert Humphrey's protégé. My grandmother was an early fundraiser for Humphrey's first Senate run in 1948, and he introduced her (and thus my dad) to many figures that would later on make Minnesota proud. A few of them, I got to hang with on occasion, and Fritz Mondale was one of them.

He thanked and built up other people, talked up President Joe, and was Minnesota up to the end sitting with a Labrador by the water.
